Blaise Carney, MD Dies in Sleep at 35
Child and adolescent psychiatrist in Seattle dies unexpectedly.
A reader in Seattle just sent me the obituary of Blaise Anthony Carney, MD, who died unexpectedly in his sleep while vacationing with his wife and children. Dr. Carney was a much-loved child psychiatrist, husband, and father.
Cardiac arrest is the most likely cause of young men dying in their sleep, though each incident should be rigorously investigated by medical examiners.
Investigating what appears to be an increasing incidence of sudden and unexpected deaths of young people is now our primary endeavor at the McCullough Foundation. I was at my church last week and the parking lot was full. Young couples were exiting the service. I found out it was a funeral for a 32 YO pregnant woman who died in her sleep. The 33 week baby girl died also. No autopsy. No ME involved. Tragic.
Its horrific that this is even happening, let alone it’s being “normalized”. It’s like people have total and complete pre-2020 amnesia. It’s occurring with increased frequency that how can it not be obvious? Each person gets explained away, swept under the rug as if absolutely just another day another young healthy person dying for no appearing reason. I work in Ortho/sports rehab, and we simply rarely, I mean rarely lost healthy young folks to sudden MI’s......when they did everybody talked about it-the whole world new.
It’s heartbreaking-
I want to scream every day.
