COVID-19 Vaccines Fail in the Omicron Era
Theoretical Vaccine Efficacy Unacceptable with Primary Series and Boosters
By Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH
We have never had an adult vaccine that required two shots as a primary series and then continual injections every six months with no end in site. Even the most compliant patients are asking their doctors and family members when this is going to end? On December 10, 2021, the CDC reported 79% of Omicron cases were fully vaccinated, it was a harbinger for the end of theoretical COVID-19 vaccine efficacy.
Menegele et al published a systematic review and meta-analysis of COVID-19 primary and boosted vaccination for the outcome of COVID-19 illness (like the common cold) without evaluation of adjudicated hospitalization and death. The results must be very disappointing for vaccine developers (Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen, AstraZeneca/Oxford) and program sponsors (CDC, FDA, HHS). As the figure depicts, the pooled vaccine efficacy for laboratory confirmed COVID-19 illness at 1, 3, 6, and 9 months was < 60% and < 20% for the later time points.
