Former Miss Universe on Pandemic Response

Dr. McCullough with Namibian Actress and Supermodel Michelle McLean

By Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH

I had the recent honor of spending time one-on-one with Michelle McLean who is a Namibian actress, writer, model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe 1992 in Thailand. McLean was 19 years old when she was crowned Miss Universe, and became the first Namibian woman to win the title. Michelle was crowned Miss Namibia 1991 before Miss Universe, and also placed as the fourth runner-up at Miss World 1991.

You are going to be amazed with her insights on pandemic response and what the reaction was from Namibian tribes as worldwide public health authorities came down the continent with new restrictions and proposed mandates.

McLean campaigns for education with the Michelle McLean Primary School in Namibia, which has 890 students. The Michelle McLean Children's Trust also in Namibia, which focuses on the education and care of under-privileged children, was founded in 1992 and has raised over 50 million dollars to help children in her native Namibia, in Southern Africa.[3]
