Observational Study Shows Those Selected for Medication Had Better Outcomes

I have been to Hong Kong and visited one of their largest hospitals. I can tell you first hand that the healthcare system there is excellent. It has efficiency, economies of scale, and high-quality care. This paper from Ma et al caught my attention since it described Omicron era Hong Kong nursing home patients, only 13% vaccinated, who were selected to receive Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir or Molnupiravir as part of their treatment regimen versus no antiviral therapy. I suspect not receiving an antiviral agent was proxy for no treatment of COVID-19 whatsoever. The results are interesting for many reasons.
