I've never had a flu shot, and haven't gotten the flu in over 35 years. My mother got flu shots every year, and was very sick with the flu most of those years. This is only a sample size of 2, but is a common story worldwide.

I live in a small rural (mostly vaxed) community, and not only is there a flu that is ripping through the community, but this flu is far more virulent than usual.

As for the flu shots, when the CDC used to publish informational pages the public could access, the average efficacy of the flu shots was 15-20%. Didn't seem worth the cost to me, even if Medicare or the VA covered it.
A 2019 study done by the military showed that the flu shot did reduce the incidence of the few flu strains it was designed for *but*, it increased the risk of other flu like illnesses, including coronaviruses.
They rarely look at non-specific side effects of vaccines. This study was very unusual, in my opinion.
I remember reading about that study and wondering if the flu shot would increase mortality from the “pandemic” we were in at the time (early 2020) the results of that study were released. Turns out getting a flu shot did increase your risk of dying from SARS-CoV 2. They initially did a study and found a correlation with lower mortality from a SARS-CoV 2 infection. So someone decided to look at several countries, instead of just one and the results flipped. A flu shot in 2019 lead to increased mortality from Covid.
I’m guessing they wouldn’t have conducted the larger study if they had known what the results were going to be ahead of time. They figured out that the positive results that they found in the single country was a correlation between wealth and getting the flu shots.
