Calls to Investigate Dr. Anthony Fauci Never Go Anywhere
Are Congressional hearings and investigations mere theater?
By John Leake
I’ve always applauded Rand Paul’s willingness to confront Dr. Fauci at Senate Health Committee hearings. The jousting matches between the bold Senator and the wily NIAID Director occasionally reminded me of Cicero’s Senate hearings against Lucius Sirgius Catiline for conspiracy against the Roman Republic. However, while Cicero ultimately presented sufficient evidence before the Senate to warrant arresting Catiline, Senator Paul’s valiant efforts to call Dr. Fauci to account never seem to go anywhere, and Dr. Fauci never seems the least bit concerned that they will.
I was reminded of this today when I read a report in the Epoch Times about its recent interview with Dr. Scott Atlas, who called for an investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci, especially in the matter of NIAID'‘s generous grant to the EcoHealth Alliance to perform gain of function research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s BSL-4 lab.
As Dr. Atlas put it in his interview:
“We cannot have illegal research being funded outside the country by American science” avoiding or circumventing the rules, Atlas said.
“These leadership positions come with massive responsibility. It’s not a game to be in charge of things. You’re not supposed to use it to circumvent rules. You’re not supposed to set up power, friends in the media to cover for you. No, you need to at least answer the questions in front of the American people.”
The assertion that Dr. Fauci needs “at least to answer the questions in front of the American people” indicates that Dr. Atlas has a Congressional investigation in mind.
Judging by their statements, Senator Paul and Dr. Atlas are already confident that Dr. Fauci and his key associates, Dr. Peter Daszak at the EcoHealth Alliance and Dr. Ralph Baric at UNC Chapel Hill, aided and abetted gain of function work on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan BSL-4 lab—work that likely produced SARS-CoV-2. The evidence of this activity includes the following:
—The HHS (NIAD administered) grant to the EcoHealth Alliance (UNDERSTANDING THE RISK OF BAT CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCE) is public record.
—NIAD’s work with Moderna—whose CEO, Stephane Bancel was instrumental in the construction of the WIV’s BSL-4 lab—is a matter of public record, as is Moderna’s patent of part of the spike protein gene sequence found in SARS-CoV-2.
—Dr. Baric’s collaboration with Dr. Shi Zhengli at the WIV is also well documented in their joint authorship of an academic paper and in an MIT journal.
—On October 27, 2022, the Senate Committee on Health Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) published an interim report titled “An Analysis of the Origins of the COVID-19 Pandemic,'“ whose authors concluded that the origin of SARS-CoV-2 was more likely a “research related incident” in a lab, and not zoonotic.
As these (and many other documents) show, it’s clear that Dr. Anthony Fauci—through his significant grant to EcoHealth Alliance and his agency’s approval of Dr. Ralph Baric’s ongoing gain of function research—aided and abetted the work on bat coronaviruses that likely produced SARS-CoV-2.
Regarding the law: The US Government officially paused new funding of gain of function research on influenza, MERS, and SARS viruses on October 17, 2014 because the risks of such research were deemed to outweigh the prospective benefits. Nevertheless, the NIH’s release of grant money to EcoHealth Alliance and its approval of Dr. Baric’s ongoing gain of function research on bat coronaviruses continued after the pause was enacted. The assertion (in the Baric, Zhengli paper) that this dangerous research could continue because it was initially approved before the pause flies in the face of the pause’s rationale.
All of the above raises an important question: Why are calls to investigate Dr. Fauci directed to Congress, which only has the power to conduct investigations in aid of its legislative function? Even if the Republicans ultimately prevail and win a slim majority in the House, what is the likely upshot of another Congressional hearing to which Dr. Fauci is subpoenaed? Hasn’t he already demonstrated his ability to brush off whatever questions any legislator throws at him?
One wonders if the majority of Republicans in Congress are genuinely interested in discovering the origin of SARS-CoV-2, or if they are just pretending to be in order to curry favor with their constituencies and raise money from donors.
Why isn’t the matter Drs. Anthony Fauci, Peter Daszak, and Ralph Baric simply referred to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation?

Thank you for your interesting summary and observations. In my sad opinion, the Department of Justice now appears to be a weaponized arm of the BIden regime, and cannot be trusted to investigate Dr. Fauci or his partners in crime.
"Why isn’t the matter Drs. Anthony Fauci, Peter Daszak, and Ralph Baric simply referred to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation?"
Because that's the theater next door. The DoJ is now the Stasi -- they're not interested in justice any more than Fauxi is interested in science.
