Jake better hope Mike’s teeth aren’t fit enough to bite his ear off.

If Tyson is telling the truth that he doesn't need the money, why is he doing this? He's had problems with ulcers, possibly due to taking too many NSAIDs for pain. And he's been seen in public with a cane. I was never much of a fan of Tyson, but I'd hate to see him wind up with the kind of mental problems that Ali had which was heartbreaking.

When some anyone says they don’t need the money,…. They need the money! Lol

Like saying I don’t need air …

Sure he will get a lot of money 💰 and attention

And hoping he proves to the punk kid old men

Still kick ass 😎

Yeah, start a sentence with “To tell you the truth” you know the opposite lives in that pie hole.

When someone shows up saying, “I am from the government and am here to help you”. Thank you great Pres Reagan!

Agreed. Cassius Clay Mohammad ALI one of the most entertaining people I grew up with. Too many

Shots to the brain, he becomes a sad noble warrior

Truly heartbreaking. Tyson 58 vs 27 big difference

In physical age, not sure I’d ever challenge Tyson,

But good for entertainment and curious eyes.

Age experience vs youth and 30 years difference,

Eager to see results?

I only liked boxing bc of Ali who in his prime

Floated like a butterfly, stung like a bee!! Ali

Was one of our heroes !!! Tyson was in his prime

Terrifying. And then you hear him speak and he

Has a kids voice.

It seems that they never know when to get out of the ring (Rocky Marciano being one exception, and Max Schmeling another).

Ali took a lot of punches throughout his career. All boxers do. Ali fought the best fighters continuously.

Expand full comment

He could have quit earlier than he did.

Expand full comment

He should have. He took too many blows to the head.

A lot of fighters were able to force their way inside because Ali wasn’t known to stop fighters early. He liked to “ box.”

Why? Because he wants to. Because, like many of us, he wants to see to what degree he still has it. I admire old athletes trying to hang on, so long as they're competitive. I remember watching Archie Moore winning light-heavyweight championship bouts when he was 50, or very close to 50. That's amazing. With training, you can keep a lot of strength as you get older, but the speed and instantaneous response of the neurons is not what it was. I was a good sprinter, still like to sprint, but today I'd call it "what passes for sprints at my age". Tyson's loss of speed and ability to react in the instant will be his biggest problem.

Not a big boxing fan, but I don't judge others. Your concern about Tyson's brain seems very valid... 🫤 I'm only a couple years younger than him and the "getting old" struggle is very real! Why does everything always hurt now? 🫤

I hear ya. I used to be able to cook a meal and carry on a conversation. Now, I have to choose one or the other.

Multi-tasking is a lot different, I've noticed that too.

Prediction… Tyson wins in a knockout by the third round. OK that’s more of a hope.

Wow, so making it to the 3rd round would be an accomplishment. I only watched Tyson a couple of times, but I remember him ferociously attacking from the very start. I think that would be how Tyson could win this.

Mike Tyson was after my youth. I somehow still work, in an office of fellas that are 40 years younger; got one of them to watch ButchC&TSK 4 years ago, even though we changed shifts and rarely see each other, he greets me with “Butch” and I call him Sundance. Muhammad Ali was mentioned the other day and I commented “Cassius Clay” but being old and invisible I expected nothing in return but knew they all would at least “google” it … I appreciate your reference to Death stalking the main members of “The Hole in The Wall” gang. Brilliant!

Tyson fixes it round 1. Older rules and golly, 58 is young!

I think the important question is whether or not Tyson kept working out in the gym at least on a semi regular basis, and if he has the wind to fight past a few rounds.

Tyson, age and all, is as you’ve said a “formidable” opponent. I remember throwing a one hit,

shutout with 19 strikeouts at the ripe old age of 41 against 18 years olds. Most of these players were drafted and reached Triple A. A couple made it to the big leagues until they hurt themselves.

Nevertheless, age has always been a factor for most sports. Boxing no doubt takes its toll on the brain tremendously! And Tyson I’m sure knows he must “outsmart” his younger opponent.

I do believe there’s something I called “intestinal fortitude” or in

my personal experience, the will to persevere, through my own experiences and mental fortitude.

Which is a huge difference between ages. Certainly there’s no comparison between baseball and boxing other than having the “Sheer-Willingness” to win. Which applies to anything we do!

This is something I believe Tyson has shown repeatedly. Aside from his power punches and quickness, which I’m sure have slowed, his athleticism and ability coupled with “Sheer-Will” should bring Tyson a victory.

As the saying goes “there’s always someone stronger”. In this case I believe Tyson’s mental prowess along with his physical strength, will prove to add a new level to the saying, “there’s always someone physically and mentally stronger”.

Certainly in Tyson’s case, I believe this saying will need to be updated. Of course I’m rooting for the “ole-man”.

You remind me of one of the most memorable things I've ever heard anyone say. It was a Russian wrestling coach, whose ability was amazing. He said "you know the old saying there's always somebody out there who's just a little bit better? YOU want to be that guy out there who's just a little bit better".

Smart Coach!

I like that a lot.

So true SteelJ such great advice.

Thank you for sharing this.

I have an excellent line for my young grandson who’s always trying to beat his “Pa” whatever we’re doing and “to be that guy who’s a little bit better”.

Thank you SteelJ.

My father got me into watching boxing as a kid and I found it entertaining. Tyson won't have the flexibility of youth, but he may have maintained muscle strength, that might be enough.

"Old man muscle" is not to be underestimated...my money is on Mike...and I've never heard of the young buck...obviously hasn't impressed many people yet. I think Mike will hurt the 27 year old. It is what Mike does best, unfortunately.

Am someone seldom watching a Boxing Match and was a bit bewildered at dinner in a local Tavern with a friend when seeing Tyson bite off Holyfield's ear and spit it out. Can NEVER forget that and the uproar among all actively watching.

It was a rare moment when most in society seeing it remember exactly where we were, what we were doing, what we wore, the drink and the response from all those around us as well as society at large.

Not certain of the inspiration behind this fight. Mike appears well conditioned and can only hope he's as fit on the inside because this hungry young man is gunning for him.

Mike is counting on just one massive punch.

Few can regain sight or composure 2 seconds after such a solid blow.

These are crazy men, now unable to think clearly an outcome of a different end result.

Mike Tyson a hero? Hard to accept that. The rape charge was as bad as the anti-Trump lawfare.

Tough boxer without question. But I could never consider him heroic.
