We’ve all witnessed this on a scale that I never would have imagined possible. It’s a strange mix of mass psychosis and post modern ideology and those two seem to be intermingled with corporate interest. And the strange influence of social media, feeding on peoples’ need to be viewed as a “nice and good” person, compels people to look for virtue-signaling opportunities at the expense of critical thinking. This has been an interesting few years.

Mass Psychosis is a fraud as it labels a group of people with a medically diagnostic term. Psychosis can only be diagnosed through individual evaluation by a specialist trained in psychiatric medicine.

Fraud? Hmmm. OK, so what would you / should we call what has happened to / been intentionally inflicted on the psyche of the masses over the last almost 3 years?

It is as simple as this...were the individuals who took part in asserting the power of the third Reich responsible for their atrocities, or were they the victims of a mass psychosis? Mass Formation is used to explain perversion in group-think. It overlooks our capability of discernment and diminishes humanity to reactive animals. It can be used by those in power to claim a group to be acting under a type of psychosis.

Humans are a herd animal.

Really? I raise sheep which are considered mindless followers, but most people don’t understand that there are a variety of breeds that are gregarious and non-gregarious in their nature. They they don’t act in unison even when the grain bucket comes out! How much easier my shepherding would be if they did. As humans we have a bit more going for us than herd mentality. It is so easy to make wide-ranging comments on animals and medicine when you have no background in either of them.

Excellent explanation c Anderson. I raise chickens, who exhibit unique personalities, even within breeds.

I would add that a group doing the wrong thing, together, even if they were all deceived the same way and each of them were encouraged to do the wrong thing by the others around them doing the wrong thing, will always be a personal choice. Reminds me of scriptures that caution against “keeping company” with fools.

I believe he is referring to a collective conscience of varying groups within societies. It’s the underlying premise to the essays theme.

Expand full comment

Collective conscience is BS for mob mentality. You mean a collective conscience like people who joined the KKK? Get your head out! It is no accident people choose to believe a set of ideas and pattern their lives in response to those ideas. That is why censorship is so dangerous. We must allow dissenting opinions and foster spiritual health so people can discern good from bad. Mass formation suggests a lack of consciousness.

Free Will, Gods greatest gift, and mankind’s greatest demise. We are all children, always under a great deal of bad influence.

There are many factors that will cause folks to lose individualism, ie, everything human, camaraderie, all the temptations, greed, fear of pain, which is absolutely the only thing we fear, more pain.

Having consciousness doesn’t prevent immoral or unethical behavior, it just renders guilt. Jails are packed with the guilt ridden

And then there is substance abuse and bad decisions.

The KKK ? Huh?

Expand full comment

Avoiding feelings of guilt is what stops people from carrying out crime. Lacking the ability to feel guilt means there you have no self-conscious control. Yes, the KKK was a nasty group of people who shared hate and were tyrannical in their efforts to enslave and control others. The KKK wanted to to remove the free will of those they felt superior to. How much more immoral can you get? The citizenry sees criminals as guilty, but there is a disconnect by criminals and we see that in the recidivism rates.

Turn off the TV/ computer and spend more time in the real world wirh your children. Take all the kids out of the gov edu system. Well, it's possible that I'm using an incorrect term. I do understand that there is an attempt to make a diagnosis for everything (obesity, alcoholism, narcissistic personality disorder etc) and then label it as a disease so that people do not have to take personal responsibility. I don't buy into the whole "no responsibility" thing after a diagnosis, and I probably never will. To me, all a disease label means is a set of symptoms that are similar enough in characteristics that they can hold that label. I don't believe it's a fixed state of being that is unmovable and that absolves personal responsibility. Onbviously, some diseases are not preventable or treatable by taking responsibility, but many are. Disease labels, to me, are just a description of what is going on that is amiss in the body or mind.

I will say that observing the people around me lead me to believe that many were and are still suffering from some sort of psychotic episode, even if it was temporary. And I'm not saying that to be flippant or dismissive. I had a friend who wore an air filter around her neck. She still believes that we can stop all viruses by social distancing, wearing a mask and getting our covid "vaccine". She compared unvaccinated people to drunk drivers. People were spraying their children down with lysol and bleaching their groceries. I had multiple friends attacking me on social media for being selfish and not caring about health, which is so ironic because I've spent about a decade trying to help people change their diets so that they can lower their risk of chronic disease, and I did that at no cost to anyone who wanted my help. Doctors, pharmacists and other medical personnel were and are injecting a product that didn't complete proper trials, showed no statistically significant benefit and had a blank insert. How would you describe that on a society wide level? Is Mass formation better? Or is that a worse or similar term?

You don't always have to be a professional to see that something is very wrong in peoples' minds. If diagnosing people with mass psychosis or labeling them as such absolves them of personal responsibility for their actions, especially those that harmed others directly or indirectly, then I'm not promoting that. I'm looking for a word that describes what we experienced in certain people. Fortunately, I'm not a professional capable of diagnosing anyone so I don't think I'm contributing to whatever junk politics is going on in professional psychiatry. But perhaps even whispering the term contributes... I am not in the know of such things. Perhaps I should be more educated. Perhaps there is a better term. Perhaps it's just low critical thinking skills. Group think? I'm not exactly sure what it was that we observed but it was definitely something and it was massive.

My personal view of the situation and how people are responsible for their actions, beliefs, and behaviors is that people were choosing to follow the narrative, to some degree and possibly on a subconscious level, and allowed themselves to become wrapped up in false beliefs. In my opinion, this occurred due to a few problematic beliefs that they chose to adopt over the last several decades that were self-serving in nature. Not only were these beliefs self-serving, but they were encouraged by industries that gained money and power as they spread propaganda that encouraged people to adopt these false beliefs.

True health on a societal wide scale comes from the majority of people adopting a healthy lifestyle, the most important of which is diet. People know this on some level. For instance most people are aware that cigarettes, cookies, french fries, white bread, candy and soda/sugary drinks are unhealthy, yet people still partake. Lots of people. Those are billion-dollar industries and there's so many more. These industries are endless even though people are aware that this food is bad for their body. This involves some level of cognitive dissonance, especially in the face of a pandemic. People who make poor lifestyle choices will naturally feel better about themselves if they minimize their roll subconsciously and shift the blame to a virus, for instance. Instead of taking personal responsibility for their health, they adopt a sense of morality for doing something that is easier, such as wearing a mask, social distancing and participating in a mass vaccination campaign.

Because of this mindset, our society has largely embraced the pharmaceutical business model of a pill, injection, or surgery for every ailment.

We had a friend sending us photos of getting his free donut for his proof of vaccination. He is obese. He believed that he was staying "safe and healthy". I could give so many examples of this kind of cognitive dissonance.

Whatever it was that we witnessed in our friends, family members and communities, it's real, it's harming people on a massive scale, and even if the people in power who perpetrated the covid-19 fraudulent response are held accountable, the average person is still stuck in a problematic belief system about the role of germs, diet, and lifestyle play in health and disease. In my view, as a society, we will continue to be susceptible to the dangers of this mass psychosis or whatever you want to call it until it is addressed.

I am completely open to considering new descriptive terms or labels.

So are you saying the people who protested Jan 6 were psychotic or a mass formation? Is a protest by pro-abortion or pro-life groups mass formation? Is a religious group who disagrees with government, a mass formation? Psychosis is a diagnostic term of disease. Mass Formation is a pop culture term that has yet to be be scientifically validated and has an application in medicine. It tends to remove the responsibility in a person’s actions. You cannot absolve people of their actions by saying they were inspired by group-think good or bad and have a lawfully conducted government. It would be a fabulous term to use in a sci-fi zombie movie or novel.

The data shows that Conservatives views have changed little over the years. If anything, we’ve move a bit to the right. It’s the left who’ve gone over the deep end and taken over many of our institutions. So yes it is a left-right issue. AND an issue of allowing the Godless left to remove God from our government. I see many leftists trying to muddy the water as to who’s to blame. For example, they try to pin it on Boomers as a whole, instead of the political party responsible for the most damaging policies. The left is the source of over 90% of our problems.

The simple explanation is that the powers that be are attempting to normalize mental illness. Years ago, one example, such as issues like body dysmorphia, would be dealt with at a psychiatric level. Today, we are being forced to pretend that this is ‘normal’. Jung’s first paragraph actually says it all…we are told that accepting such illness as normal is part of a sense of ‘humanitarianism’ or ‘Justice’. While it is certainly ‘humanitarian’ to accept those whose legitimate lifestyles or opinions may be different from our own, there is nothing humanitarian about accepting mental illness as normal behavior.

Dr. McCullough, what we are witnessing is evil. The example in this piece shows a complete disregard for the protection of children in a school setting. The very place charged with the protection and education of children, allowing them to be exposed to a sexually deviant mentally ill individual.

And yet the problem is even worse than this. Parents are bringing their own children, as if to Moloch, to sexually explicit drag queen shows. Events which are being held in public spaces such as libraries and Tractor Supply stores etc...

Where is law enforcement? Aren't there laws governing minors access to adult sexual and alcoholic content? Yes there are. Why aren't they being enforced? Why aren't those of us who've not lost our way demanding these laws be enforced? Why are local law enforcement agencies allowing antifa armed to the teeth to provide "security" at these events?

Seems to me what we are witnessing is akin to the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The end of the Roman Empire seems a fitting example as well.

Do I think a super natural being is coming to save us from our selves? No. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think so. Rather I think the bible is a blueprint for prosperity but if ignored it lays out the consequences, and here we are again, on the precipice of self destruction.

There is a strong movement of parents removing their children from public schools, whether to home schooling or private schools. As this movement continue to gain traction and local school boards are populated with more parents, what will hopefully happen is the movement of those teachers who aren’t mentally ill into the private sector. This will enable the weakening and destruction of the teacher’s union which will inevitably cause the mentally ill teachers to leave due to lack of support. Then the system can be rebuilt without unions and with checks and balances in place.

Democracy works through mass control and manipulation. Working class was used during the industrial capitalism. Once their economic goals have been fulfilled- in the West- and also making sure that their syndicates and unions are corrupted and destroyed- other disadvantaged segments of population were taken over- women, racial minorities. It is not about integration of these "victims" in a normal organized society, it is about using them to destroy the societal organization. Women are in a huge illusion if they think they managed to "free" themselves- it would take too long to explain why I have this opinion. And now there is other category- the mental ill people, including homosexual and other sexual perversions; that are used to complete the disintegration of human societies, starting with traditional families and all normal human interactions in a community. They need help, compassionate medical, psychoterapeutic help. Instead they are pushed to have grotesque parades, proud of themselves, like a final moquery of the master of this world. What they want and what we are directed to do is to consider the abnormal normal, and let them destroy the very basis of humankind future- the destruction of children souls. At a top level I do not think these are not unconscious actions taken against our humanity. This is the time for radical actions- parents and teachers to fight for their children, doctors to fight for their patients, each of us to fight for our soul.

I would like to wish you all a hopeful and blessed New Year!

Last but not least I wish to thank Dr McCullough for honoring and defending the dignity of the medical art.

I am confident that medicine will fully return some day to its original mission- preserving the entirety - body and soul- of human life, and using technology as a useful tool which can have a place, but cannot replace the human relationship based on trust between physician and patient.

Two main points made by Carl Jung but not mentioned in this essay are that (1) all humans people have a shadow, namely, repressed desires, identities, pulsions, emotions, etc., which can erupt into actions at any time if triggered, and (2) archetypes as inner forces in the collective unconscious influence humans beyond human awareness. If a human is not aware of his or her shadow (not self-conscious), and very few are, the shadow can take over and thus dictate attitudes and behaviors in a surprising way, especially if archetypes wish to manifest themselves via such a shadow. For exemple, a human behaving like any blunt stereotype, a cartoon figure, a theater character, etc. is 'possessed' by an archetype (like this non-psychotic teacher with cartoonish fake boobs; you would talk to him and he would be 'reasonable' except for this feature). As a clinial psychologist specilaized in trauma and personality disorders, I once evaluated a woman dressed up like Daisy Duck, the 'wife' of Donald Duck; she made complete sense except for her complete outfit from hair style to shoes. In a observation, more and more humans in our modern societies are turning themselves into manifested archetypes (I easily see them walking the streets of San Francisco). Given that shadows and archetypes belong to the invisible world, prayer is the best solution in my opinion.

Humans have free-will, but they use it too often for ill-purposes. Humans can chose and thus exert their free will, as Anderson points out. However, humans can chose according to pride (wanting attention from others like this possessed teacher with cartoonish boobs), lust, greed, etc.

In my view, vaccinated people chose to get jabbed because those in power said so and threatened those who did not get jabbed; the vaccinated chose power, by aligning themselves with power, beyond fear. Can we dare say so?
