I understand what you're saying, but you have overestimated many "investors." Plenty of average people have "ordinary prudence," and yet would have no idea what the words "due diligence" even mean. I am not saying this critically, at all. I am attempting to explain their naivete. We have elderly women who are scammed by con artists every day. There are older men who were let go by their company at age 63, and they convince themselves that they should invest in order "to somehow make up the money" they'll now never get from their company. A man in his 20s working at Burger King told me excitedly about investing in crypto.
I guess my point is that there are many good, hard working, "average people" who would have been "scammed" by FTX, and I don't think that happening is a reflection of the times. It happns more than you would think because they haven't been educated as to these matters. There but for the grace of God go I. Or my parents. Or my brothers. Or my daughter. We were raised poor.
