Dear TriTorch, living pine trees have a moisture content of up to 250%, while Eucalyptus trees have a number of adaptations that both cause fire and enable the them to withstand fire. The purported arborists should not be perplexed by the fact that these trees are still standing while homes built out of seasoned wood were incinerated. I also highly doubt his claim he has built campfires from wood he has collected from living pines and eucalyptus. Here on Maui, my brother watched a wildfire completely torch ALL of the dry fuel in a jungle while leaving the living trees (mostly kiawe and date palm) completely intact. Water makes these type of fires worse and show clear evidence of the type of fire. They couldn’t have water available or phone video would’ve captured the white- blue flames that come from water used on these fires. Evidence is their enemy. There’s also the concept floating around that the forest are from directed energy, with the evidence being that trees are burned out from the center to the bark, that wood against metal is only burned where it touches the metal. That the kind of energy being used is microwave or plasma, where metals are more conduits than wood. No one ever explains the actual physics of it, so that’s why I know so much without having answers. I haven’t found the connected dots yet.
Yes, they certainly can. In 2009 our 'embers' were huge burning pieces coming down from the updraft fires, blown up to 5km ahead of the main fire front. If it landed on a wooden deck that might be enough to set the whole thing alight. Perhaps in time John can talk with the surrounding property owners to get the account of the fire at that house.
you make a good point. Embers ignite wood. But on Maui, just like in the Paradise and Santa Rosa fires, we have found wood and plastic untouched , while houses are turned to white powder and car windows and aluminum melted. A local Maui friend send me a photo of the house gone while the wooden stairs and deck are still standing, I have seen others as well. I have lived through enough fires to know this is NOT a natural fire.

Come on. Anyone who burns wood for heat knows to stay away from pine, it's so flammable and it leaves so much flammable residue in your flue. And eucalyptus--jeez. I lived in Santa Monica and used eucalyptus pods for flea control in my apartment. The pitch is super flammable. You don't want to burn wood with more than 20% moisture content. Otherwise you get massive creosote build up and potential chimney fires which can kill everyone and destroy the entire house. It's not a matter of dry burns better and moist does not. I use cedar pet bedding to start a fire when I'm feeling lazy or am too busy to baby the fire, but I won't have pine shavings in my stove. Too dangerous.
All our trees were standing after our fires. We made cabinetry out of our conifers - the Japanese cedar, filled with old dry needles, apparently exploded into flame, probably a large contribution to the complete destruction of two cars parked within 2 metres of it on our neighbour's side (their building did not burn), but the trunk and branches remained standing. We milled the tree and it is now all the cabinetry in our kitchen.
Regarding the eucalypts that surround our town that exploded ahead of the fire, they were ALL still standing. Some eucalypts - messmates, peppermints, boxes sprang beautifully back to life after the fire, because that is their massive survival trick here in Australia - others, the mountain ashes, died, standing tall and straight as lightning rods, eventually falling when they rot. The mountains around our town are white with these tree trunks, shining pink and orange at sunset.

Firefighters are in awe of the damage on Maui as well. Cars don’t melt in wildfires, even with strong winds and full of gas. Melted steel that rolled down the street? No way. They can’t cover all this up fast enough. I think all the “ toxic- hazard” removal, is actually all the untouched plastics that would prove the type of fire.
But palm trees are still standing everywhere. Yes, many are damaged but they should be gone. The plastic is what surprises me. Plastic fencing beside a home completely incinerated, it’s not melted.. nothing. Also, interesting video on cars completely melted surrounding a blue car almost completely untouched. Isn’t blue a color not recognized by lasers? These fires were too hot for wildfires. Unreal.

The arborist did mention talking to two fire chiefs, who confirmed that what he was observing was NOT "normal." I know it's hard for many to get to the point where we realize that a lot of our trusted institutions have gone rogue..especially if they have a background, as I did, of supporting the more liberal political organizations. Many of my friends are still struggling with that "new" perspective. For me, the game changer was beginning to turn off the pundits and go directly to the evidence, read the documents, etc. My final "nail in the coffin" to my old allegiances was timely/correctly requesting election records and having our (Hawai'i) election officer refuse to turn them over. Our elected officials' (councils, mayors, legislators, etc.) response, upon being provided all documentation - they gave him a raise.
I have talked to local firemen about the strangeness of the CA fires and some agree it's unusual. However, others are still upholding the party line. When a huge firestorm came from Lake county to Napa county a few years ago, CAL fire stood around and did nothing for several days while our local fire department had been deployed to southern CA. When asked why they did nothing to stop the fire they said that they were waiting for orders. Eventually the locals formed a fire brigade and were able to stop the fire from destroying more houses in pope Valley and coming up to destroy the town of Angwin in an heroic effort. After that, Cal Fire went on local TV to diss the fire brigade for cutting down unauthorized trees and using environmentally unapproved equipment.
I'm not meaning to dispute the existence of terrible weapons, and I certainly understand the existence of satanic psychopathy at high levels of leadership, but on the evidence available I haven't seen anything from Lahaina beyond how things may normally look after a fire.

There are people claiming that solid aluminium burned in Lahaina. Solid aluminium does not burn. Aluminium dust can burn. Try to explain these facts to them and they just accuse you of being a corporate troll.

No TriTorch. Foliage may burn/brown/blacken in fires but trunks and branches don't. Now I've looked back at 2009 fires (in a town surrounded by eucalypts) all the trees on our property (conifer, evergreen, deciduous, eucalypt) are all standing, but for two little saplings within a meter of our burning/exploding wooden house which were half burned. After the fire we salvaged the trees (eventually all but one had died, though a number coppiced again from the roots), and milled them to make all the cabinetry and table/benches in our new house.
I don't think any aborist could claim that trees should burn to the ground. Here (to our disgust) there was an aborist tagging the trees he was interested in salvaging for himself.
We also had an arborist coming in to advise on likely survival of some of the trees.
All the glass in our house melted. Believe it or not I still have it - I kept it because it was artistic. The aluminium melted - I kept blobs. The steel troughs/tubs didn't, although many were damaged and deformed. Our combustion fireplace was untouched - built for it - the ashes from our last fire still happily untouched inside. A car fire is probably hot enough to melt the glass, in the hot winds of a firestorm. After our fires I saw melted trucks on roadsides, far away from burning properties. Property owners who escaped to our sports oval in their cars were protected by the fire trucks spraying water over them - a long time fire plan. I know of two people who sat out a fire in a detached steel garage while watching their house in the eucalypts burn. He attributed their survival to having a very good car - a mercedes - they kept the engine running for the air conditioner, and sat it out - the garage was open - they took photos of their burning house - but perhaps the small protection was enough to stop major flash-point embers landing on their car.
Adding on the nature of a firestorm... the wind can be like a blizzard of burning particulates - travelling great distances - unable to be faced. A field might seem like an empty place after a fire, but it wouldn't have been at the time. It's a veritable onslaught. There was an account of a man in a house, before he escaped, saying that burning particulates were entering his house through every vent. The only person able to film the fire in 2009 was a professional photographer who'd escaped to a lake. Another surviving couple in their absolutely-prepared house up the hill said the fire looked like hell.
Also, be mindful that fires can be used by the canny for other purposes - like faking a death or claiming insurance.

But a "tell" in all this has been suggested: circulate a petition to restore Lahaina for Lahainans to prevent land grabs by monied interests who want to 'build back better.' This petition would demand that for the previous owners of all the properties, the generous funds to rebuild and restore will go to them alone, to rebuild as they wish. The 'tell' is if influential people-- including presidential candidates-- refuse to step up and take this simple and just step to help the local population in time of great tragedy, and instead are willing to allow outsiders to capitalize on the opportunity for their own benefit and their own designs.

I see the cautious approach to this Maui situation here but want to add a major aspect. For years the people of Lahaina have been pressured by corporate interests to sell their land/homes for private development. The people have strongly resisted. As with Katrina damage in New Orleans where we saw Bush cut FEMA funds knowing the dams to resist flooding were in bad shape and had been denied the efforts to repair and reinforce them. The Neo-cons had been drooling over that region for industrial and high end development. Knowing the weather conditions of that region it was only a matter of time before a disaster occurred. Not only were the people, poor and Black folk removed they were also dispersed with families broken up with no records to track their locations. Same as we saw with Trump's inhumane treatment of the refugees at the southern border. Maui is no different. Now we even have the prospect that this was an engineered geopolitical event using DEW (Directed Energy Weapons) which is a military/industry effort. Even Fukushima's destruction was possibly attributed to HAARP energy destabilization of the ground which had a known ground fault. Why aren't people writing more about this and looking into this aspect of Maui's destruction? Fukushima's demise was due to bad engineering in locating back up generators to keep core cool in case of a fast shutdown. They were placed only 50 feet above sea level. The tsunami took out the generators hence with no power to pump water the core melted. As John is doing for Lahaina, one must investigate thoroughly to determine the source of the problems.
Agreed on using the crisis to land grab. Sasha Latypova wrote an essay a few days ago concerning a claim from an anonymous poster that their research of GIS mapping data indicates that the fire burned mostly properties that were non-government owned/controlled and the burn lines coincided too perfectly with property lines. Their position is that the burnt properties were the smaller residential and low rise buildings in the town and a DEW weapon may have been used.
I would love your checking into this and your opinion.

Most major government and institutional buildings are built of non-combustible materials (steel, concrete, brick, etc). Small buildings in the US are frequently made of wood frame construction. Combustibility of construction would certainly make a difference during a fire.

TREES REMAIN ALIVE; although singed in areas of devastation where heat was so intense that all but the calipers in brakes are gone in cars incinerated.
The reason for burning the trees in Canada's mostly wilderness Forests were the facts of no human habitation and being allowed to rage out of control...To poison us in the more residentially densely packed south.
All heard about 'DEW' as an idea during the Reagan years when the 'Star Wars Initiative' was raised to force the USSR to negotiate. Knew it was actually a weapon roughly 12 years ago from a credible source having access to the actual development. Didn't expect it to be used to ATTACK the U.S. territory and population...Or, any of the World's Population for that matter.
For the list of missing persons that have been compiled, try to get access to cellphone numbers of those missing. Probably nearly everyone missing had a cellphone or some sort of cellular device. If cell tower location (or GPS data) can be requested for the affected area in Lahaina, it might be possible to use that data to locate, or at least count the number of, those who perished. The cellular company(ies) operating in the area should be able to provide the data from the timeframe leading up to and during the fires. "Fire contact tracing" might be a good term to use.
This may have already been mentioned by someone else I'm not aware of. Thanks for doing the reporting. I lived in Lahaina for a few years as a small child; our house was across the street for what was then part of the sugar cane fields mauka of Lahaina. I remember that we would shut all windows during the times when the sugar cane fields were purposely burnt. I'm sad and heartbroken for those there. Aloha.

I witnessed that fire in the Oakland hills; like one in the 20s that burned the Berkeley hills, the winds that fanned it had come from the SE, contrary to expectations: but the fire in '91 began as a grass fire that was extinguished, so those present thought, and they left at some point. When its reactivation was noticed, it could not be contained, I believe because of the unexpected direction from which those winds came, with men and equipment marshalled elsewhere and all too much time elapsed before they could reach the scene . . . I do remember one particular conclusion drawn by those who conducted a careful investigation later: the more hardscape around a building the more likely it was to burn, and the greater the damage likely to be caused because the hardscape, contrary to natural ground and growth, greatly increased the intensity of the fire.

Dear TriTorch, living pine trees have a moisture content of up to 250%, while Eucalyptus trees have a number of adaptations that both cause fire and enable the them to withstand fire. The purported arborists should not be perplexed by the fact that these trees are still standing while homes built out of seasoned wood were incinerated. I also highly doubt his claim he has built campfires from wood he has collected from living pines and eucalyptus. Here on Maui, my brother watched a wildfire completely torch ALL of the dry fuel in a jungle while leaving the living trees (mostly kiawe and date palm) completely intact. Water makes these type of fires worse and show clear evidence of the type of fire. They couldn’t have water available or phone video would’ve captured the white- blue flames that come from water used on these fires. Evidence is their enemy. Yes, they certainly can. In 2009 our 'embers' were huge burning pieces coming down from the updraft fires, blown up to 5km ahead of the main fire front. If it landed on a wooden deck that might be enough to set the whole thing alight. Perhaps in time John can talk with the surrounding property owners to get the account of the fire at that house.

But on Maui, just like in the Paradise and Santa Rosa fires, we have found wood and plastic untouched , while houses are turned to white powder and car windows and aluminum melted. A local Maui friend send me a photo of the house gone while the wooden stairs and deck are still standing, I have seen others as well. I have lived through enough fires to know this is NOT a natural fire.

Come on. Anyone who burns wood for heat knows to stay away from pine, it's so flammable and it leaves so much flammable residue in your flue. And eucalyptus--jeez. I lived in Santa Monica and used eucalyptus pods for flea control in my apartment. The pitch is super flammable. You don't want to burn wood with more than 20% moisture content. Otherwise you get massive creosote build up and potential chimney fires which can kill everyone and destroy the entire house. It's not a matter of dry burns better and moist does not. I use cedar pet bedding to start a fire when I'm feeling lazy or am too busy to baby the fire, but I won't have pine shavings in my stove. Too dangerous.
All our trees were standing after our fires. We made cabinetry out of our conifers - the Japanese cedar, filled with old dry needles, apparently exploded into flame, probably a large contribution to the complete destruction of two cars parked within 2 metres of it on our neighbour's side (their building did not burn), but the trunk and branches remained standing. We milled the tree and it is now all the cabinetry in our kitchen.
Regarding the eucalypts that surround our town that exploded ahead of the fire, they were ALL still standing. Some eucalypts - messmates, peppermints, boxes sprang beautifully back to life after the fire, because that is their massive survival trick here in Australia - others, the mountain ashes, died, standing tall and straight as lightning rods, eventually falling when they rot. The mountains around our town are white with these tree trunks, shining pink and orange at sunset.

Firefighters are in awe of the damage on Maui as well. Cars don’t melt in wildfires, even with strong winds and full of gas. Melted steel that rolled down the street? No way. The arborist did mention talking to two fire chiefs, who confirmed that what he was observing was NOT "normal." I know it's hard for many to get to the point where we realize that a lot of our trusted institutions have gone rogue..especially if they have a background, as I did, of supporting the more liberal political organizations. Many of my friends are still struggling with that "new" perspective. For me, the game changer was beginning to turn off the pundits and go directly to the evidence, read the documents, etc. My final "nail in the coffin" to my old allegiances was timely/correctly requesting election records and having our (Hawai'i) election officer refuse to turn them over. Our elected officials' (councils, mayors, legislators, etc.) response, upon being provided all documentation - they gave him a raise.

I have talked to local firemen about the strangeness of the CA fires and some agree it's unusual. However, others are still upholding the party line. When a huge firestorm came from Lake county to Napa county a few years ago, CAL fire stood around and did nothing for several days while our local fire department had been deployed to southern CA. When asked why they did nothing to stop the fire they said that they were waiting for orders. Eventually the locals formed a fire brigade and were able to stop the fire from destroying more houses in pope Valley and coming up to destroy the town of Angwin in an heroic effort. After that, Cal Fire went on local TV to diss the fire brigade for cutting down unauthorized trees and using environmentally unapproved equipment.

No TriTorch. Foliage may burn/brown/blacken in fires but trunks and branches don't. Now I've looked back at 2009 fires (in a town surrounded by eucalypts) all the trees on our property (conifer, evergreen, deciduous, eucalypt) are all standing, but for two little saplings within a meter of our burning/exploding wooden house which were half burned. After the fire we salvaged the trees (eventually all but one had died, though a number coppiced again from the roots), and milled them to make all the cabinetry and table/benches in our new house.
I don't think any aborist could claim that trees should burn to the ground. Here (to our disgust) there was an aborist tagging the trees he was interested in salvaging for himself.
We also had an arborist coming in to advise on likely survival of some of the trees.

All the glass in our house melted. Believe it or not I still have it - I kept it because it was artistic. The aluminium melted - I kept blobs. The steel troughs/tubs didn't, although many were damaged and deformed. Our combustion fireplace was untouched - built for it - the ashes from our last fire still happily untouched inside. A car fire is probably hot enough to melt the glass, in the hot winds of a firestorm. After our fires I saw melted trucks on roadsides, far away from burning properties. Property owners who escaped to our sports oval in their cars were protected by the fire trucks spraying water over them - a long time fire plan. I know of two people who sat out a fire in a detached steel garage while watching their house in the eucalypts burn. He attributed their survival to having a very good car - a mercedes - they kept the engine running for the air conditioner, and sat it out - the garage was open - they took photos of their burning house - but perhaps the small protection was enough to stop major flash-point embers landing on their car.
Adding on the nature of a firestorm... the wind can be like a blizzard of burning particulates - travelling great distances - unable to be faced. A field might seem like an empty place after a fire, but it wouldn't have been at the time. It's a veritable onslaught. There was an account of a man in a house, before he escaped, saying that burning particulates were entering his house through every vent. The only person able to film the fire in 2009 was a professional photographer who'd escaped to a lake. Another surviving couple in their absolutely-prepared house up the hill said the fire looked like hell.
Also, be mindful that fires can be used by the canny for other purposes - like faking a death or claiming insurance.

Does is make any sense that in a known high-fire-potential scenario the water would be shut off? What about anomalies in the fire itself? Where are the children? How many died?
But a "tell" in all this has been suggested: circulate a petition to restore Lahaina for Lahainans to prevent land grabs by monied interests who want to 'build back better.' This petition would demand that for the previous owners of all the properties, the generous funds to rebuild and restore will go to them alone, to rebuild as they wish. The 'tell' is if influential people-- including presidential candidates-- refuse to step up and take this simple and just step to help the local population in time of great tragedy, and instead are willing to allow outsiders to capitalize on the opportunity for their own benefit and their own designs.

I see the cautious approach to this Maui situation here but want to add a major aspect. For years the people of Lahaina have been pressured by corporate interests to sell their land/homes for private development. The people have strongly resisted. As with Katrina damage in New Orleans where we saw Bush cut FEMA funds knowing the dams to resist flooding were in bad shape and had been denied the efforts to repair and reinforce them. The Neo-cons had been drooling over that region for industrial and high end development. Knowing the weather conditions of that region it was only a matter of time before a disaster occurred. Not only were the people, poor and Black folk removed they were also dispersed with families broken up with no records to track their locations. Same as we saw with Trump's inhumane treatment of the refugees at the southern border. Maui is no different. Now we even have the prospect that this was an engineered geopolitical event using DEW (Directed Energy Weapons) which is a military/industry effort. Even Fukushima's destruction was possibly attributed to HAARP energy destabilization of the ground which had a known ground fault. Why aren't people writing more about this and looking into this aspect of Maui's destruction? At the very least the public needs real information on how this kind of weaponry is used to control the public destroying communities and their economy while promoting the oligarchy's increasing power and wealth.
Fukushima's demise was due to bad engineering in locating back up generators to keep core cool in case of a fast shutdown. They were placed only 50 feet above sea level. The tsunami took out the generators hence with no power to pump water the core melted. As John is doing for Lahaina, one must investigate thoroughly to determine the source of the problems.

I would expect to see government condemn large swathes of land and declare ownership as a UN rewild sanctuary with sections sold off to well heeled globalist minded companies. After Katrina, instead of supporting the people wiped out by disaster, US engineered by refusing to secure levies, they basically imprisoned the people and shot them if they tried to leave and then moved families to parts unknown separately children from parents. Sasha Latypova wrote an essay a few days ago concerning a claim from an anonymous poster that their research of GIS mapping data indicates that the fire burned mostly properties that were non-government owned/controlled and the burn lines coincided too perfectly with property lines. Their position is that the burnt properties were the smaller residential and low rise buildings in the town and a DEW weapon may have been used.

Most major government and institutional buildings are built of non-combustible materials (steel, concrete, brick, etc). Small buildings in the US are frequently made of wood frame construction. Combustibility of construction would certainly make a difference during a fire.

How can you and I distinguish a DEW fire from a traditional fire?
In DEW Fires, the Operators have learned to avoid burning the trees in metropolitan areas or where humans will view them or acquire video evidence because a DEW will heat the sap of trees to boiling which burns the tree from the inside out leaving the more fire-resistant bark unburnt. TREES REMAIN ALIVE; although singed in areas of devastation where heat was so intense that all but the calipers in brakes are gone in cars incinerated.
The reason for burning the trees in Canada's mostly wilderness Forests were the facts of no human habitation and being allowed to rage out of control...To poison us in the more residentially densely packed south.

John, something you might want to check into...
For the list of missing persons that have been compiled, try to get access to cellphone numbers of those missing. Probably nearly everyone missing had a cellphone or some sort of cellular device. If cell tower location (or GPS data) can be requested for the affected area in Lahaina, it might be possible to use that data to locate, or at least count the number of, those who perished. The cellular company(ies) operating in the area should be able to provide the data from the timeframe leading up to and during the fires. "Fire contact tracing" might be a good term to use.
This may have already been mentioned by someone else I'm not aware of. Thanks for doing the reporting. I lived in Lahaina for a few years as a small child; our house was across the street for what was then part of the sugar cane fields mauka of Lahaina. I remember that we would shut all windows during the times when the sugar cane fields were purposely burnt. I'm sad and heartbroken for those there. Aloha.

I witnessed that fire in the Oakland hills; like one in the 20s that burned the Berkeley hills, the winds that fanned it had come from the SE, contrary to expectations: but the fire in '91 began as a grass fire that was extinguished, so those present thought, and they left at some point. When its reactivation was noticed, it could not be contained, I believe because of the unexpected direction from which those winds came, with men and equipment marshalled elsewhere and all too much time elapsed before they could reach the scene . . . I do remember one particular conclusion drawn by those who conducted a careful investigation later: the more hardscape around a building the more likely it was to burn, and the greater the damage likely to be caused because the hardscape, contrary to natural ground and growth, greatly increased the intensity of the fire.
