This paragraph really hit home with me. I know many who fall into this description.

“ The fact that stupid people are often stubborn should not hide the fact that they are not independent. When talking to him, one feels that one is not dealing with him personally, but with catchphrases, slogans, etc. that have taken possession of him. He is under a spell; he is blinded; he is abused in his own being.”

Yes,

This paragraph could also apply to dealing with Narcissists.

After some time, you realise that these people cannot see reason and are incapable of change. Trapped in their own ego, they seem possessed by it.

Replace "Stupidity" with "Narcissism" and its pretty much the same article.

Well, since the vast majority never grow up (obviously), we have an explanation for the pickle we Americans are in today. Same as always, I guess.

“Laziness and cowardice are the reasons why so great a proportion of men, long after nature has released them from alien guidance (natura-liter maiorennes), nonetheless gladly remain in lifelong immaturity, and why it is so easy for others to establish themselves as their guardians. It is so easy to be immature.”

I got partway through this article and could not complete it. Just out of the park. Too much of a jump to the conclusions advanced.

It seems to me there must have been SOME level of decent-human, non-childbinding, non- murderous mothers in pre-Nazi Germany. This article, as much as I could read, appears to extrapolate what may have been a few isolated instances and papers, into a conclusion that this practice and demeanor was generally widespread throughout the German country. It also appears your own conclusions extrapolate this infant punishment and punishment of everyday childhood desires led to Hitler being the person he developed into-- completely. At the same time one must accept that his personality was little affected by his peer associations, general parental and neighborhood social interactions, his World War I experience, or his lack of Christian upbringing.

This is an astounding theory of what may have been a cause but, from my worldview, it could only be of minor potential. But that is just me.

Yes, it's difficult to know how extensively it permeates in the culture, isn't it?

I'm reminded of the reading my wife and I did when we were expecting our first baby; how some cultures sleep with their babies and cuddle them a lot, whilst others put babies in another room and leave them to cry. The Yanomami are cuddlers, and society is relaxed, non-hierarchical. Other tribes do not, and there seems to be a correlation with hostility and aggression in the latter. The same difference is seen in Polynesian culture compared to Melanesian culture. Similarly I worked in a baboon sanctuary in Namibia, and orphan baboon babies are given a nappy and a human volunteer (there's no shortage!) to cuddle with asleep at night, or they do not thrive. You may remember the emergence of the story of conditions in the Romanian orphanages, and how damaged the children were from lack of attention.

I don't know if you live in a culture where hugging people when you meet is the norm, but it is easy to tell the difference between those who were cuddled sufficiently or not. Those who weren't are stiff and "uncuddly".

Germany (Prussia really) gave the world it's cold regimented education system, when they made a conscious decision in that direction after losing the battle of Jena.

I don't know how extensive the problem was in between-war Germany, but it's certainly a factor worth considering.

Yes. As a middle child of 7, I can relate to a lack of affection growing up, but somehow those needs were met through pets and farm animals where nature prevails. As an adult, I learned to read peoples' actions in those terms -- those that can be trained to learn useful skills and helpful behavior without using harsh methods or punishment, and those that are stubborn and clueless such that they are useless and a burden to the rest.

Generations of dysfunctional parenting and schooling since WW2 is overwhelming the productive and rational contributors to society. It is designed to produce sheep whose security comes from the numbers in their herd, while at the same time they remain oblivious to the nature of their keepers.

Now we have the reverse. We are breeding spoilt, entitled, narcissistic brutes causing even worse outcomes.

Expand full comment

It's not exactly the "reverse".... Child abuse is child abuse, no matter the form it takes, some more insidious than others, especially when it's done "for your own good".

The "spoilt, entitled, narcissistic brutes" could only come about by having their NATURAL childhood narcissistic NEEDS frustrated, ignored, and/or punished.

This is not heavy, it's more histrionic porn, and more likely than not the product of a pathetically diseased mind and probably a case of projection on the author's part. It's an example of garbage that's so hideous it even smells bad over the internet. Trash.:

"LATE 19TH-CENTURY GERMAN AND AUSTRIAN CHILDREARING

The first decision German and Austrian parents had to make when an infant was born was whether it should be killed. Newborn were not in most cases considered human since they did not yet have a soul, and so could be “killed in a kind of late abortion.”3 Mothers often “had their babies in the privy, and treated the birth as an evacuation…a bowel movement…killing their children by smashing their heads like poultry.”4

Who could take that sort of thing seriously? Good grief.

Expand full comment

This is rather interesting. Do you have supporting links I can read to further understand the mindset at the time?

Expand full comment

The mindset of the times, as shown by the propagnada, is full of anti-German (anti_Christian, really), hatred. Quite astonishing, really.

"We shall not get excited. We shall kill. If you have not killed at least one German a day, you have wasted that day ... If you cannot kill your German with a bullet, kill him with your bayonet. If there is calm on your part of the front, or if you are waiting for the fighting, kill a German in the meantime. If you leave a German alive, the German will hang a Russian and rape a Russian woman. If you kill one German, kill another -- there is nothing more amusing for us than a heap of German corpses."

The topic is important because it relates to a lot of the child abuse going on today especially that sanctioned by "authorities."

This really resonated with me today, so thank you! A cousin just told me day before yesterday that I am no longer allowed to discuss either “Covid or politics” around he and his wife. I am an independent, if I vote, and I was a Democrat for most of my younger life. He is my age, in his 60s, and what we can call a “Blue Anon”- a rabid, angry, Dem who wants to censor people, thinks Twitter “should have that right because it’s a private company” and other rubbish. I of course told him, I won’t be able to never talk about “Covid or politics” in his presence again- that this was censoring and no way to treat a friend or a family member. Plus, he talks politics nearly nonstop. He then wrote back that I am a “classic narcissist” and that he “doesn’t hate me, but” that he is “walking away from me permanently.” All because he had first sent me a puff piece on how “great a president Biden is“ and I had had the temerity to simply disagree. These “shit-libs” as Jimmy Dore calls them, are really out of hand. Funny too that at Thanksgiving, he and his wife caught Covid and I had given them HCQ and ivm to take for five days each and they recovered rapidly…. Wonders never cease!

As strange as it sounds, such people are "enchanted" into a cult mindset. Though I loved the article and felt it expressed the concept admirably, I have come to terms with this best by seeing such people as not stupid, but part of a cult brought into being through the propaganda of MSM, multiplied by the force of social media.

One can't help or reach someone while they're part of that cult, as they will rationalize the most perverse acts as a sign of self-virtue. You cannot "reach" people like that. I have the exact same situation going on with my brother and his family. They perfectly fit into this definition of "Stupid"! And also "Mass Formation Psychosis". Unfortunately, this human tendency towards Blindness could be the downfall of the entire human race, as this sort of idiocy is potentially propelling us into a suicidal all-out nuclear war with Russia! The "masses" are essentially clueless and don't recognize their own conditioning.

NOTHING will change fundamentally, until we fundamentally change the way we perceive and treat children. Until then, we will continue to see childhood adversity re-enacted upon EVERY aspect of society.

Furthermore, #childhood #adversity more often than not consists of imposing utterly INSANE societal standards of "normalcy" on children, to which they MUST conform, in order to survive, at a time when they are too young to understand and reject the madness being imposed on them.

The "masses" are essentially clueless and unaware of their own conditioning...

Interesting.

I was raised by a mother that was diagnosed with multi personality disorder in the 80s, generally referred to as a psychopath now...the ultimate narcissist.

What I find most pecular is the WEF is acting as if the fourth industrial revolution exists...robots are in mass taking over and thus mass random killing of humans is fine as everything they need will be done by robots.

This is normal for a Psychopath, they can not tell the difference between something that exists and something they desire the most.

My current thinking is the Globalists will kill billions, then themselves as no one depends on complex social structures than Klaus and the Ketchup man, etc

Those that outlive this unbelievable drama will be the winners. Not the Globalists Psychopaths.

I've thought the same thing. The Elites whole grand existence depends on the billions of people who make and deliver the millions of products in existence that enrich all of our lives. All I did was state my opinion, but he doesn’t want to hear an opinion that differs from his. When he called me a narcissist, I said, “I won’t name call, but narcissists don’t bring you soup when you’re sick, give you their HCQ and ivm when you have Covid, listen to all your philosophical and metaphysical beliefs with a non-judgmental mind and make sure you know you are loved.”

I told my two older bros (60 and 62. I am 57) something similar when they asked me to not "talk politics all the time". Then I understood, they were the ones who were deeply and dogmatically politized in their Worldview and life in such a way they were finding that almost every topic runs into uncomfortable truths contrary to their own politicization. And in response they were trying to gaslight me and shut me up. I eventually told them, that for me truth and search for truth is more important than our family relationships. That put them on notice. And they have now retreated and gone silent.

Your relationships are important, and if you are in a position to be able to help them sometime in the future, that is worth working at, as long as you can proceed without damage to yourself. Be confident in your grasp, and don't feel threatened by their lack of understanding.

I love my sister, but she and her husband are completely hooked on all the mainstream media narrative. But I recognise that a frontal assault is only going to produce resistance in the opposite direction.

Instead, I talk with them about slightly related topics, but which are sufficiently peripheral for them not to have programmed responses to, and work at keeping a good relationship with her. You cannot reason people out of a position that they got into from emotion and not reason.

There's no reason not to be kind and available, if you're up for it. It's all any of us can do, ultimately, in most circumstances.

When Corporations Rule the World

~ by David C. Korten

“I seldom used the term capitalism in the original edition of When Corporations Rule the World.

The casual reader might therefore miss that it is a book about the structure and dynamics of capitalism stripped of its relentlessly promoted PR façade as the global champion of human liberty, democracy, and the market economy.

In its literal meaning capitalism means rule by capital, more specifically rule by the owners of capital for their exclusive private benefit—or simply rule by money.

There are more idealized definitions of capitalism, but I refer to the real capitalism—the kind we are living with.

This capitalism is grounded in an elitist ideology of individualism supported by an institutional system devoted to the concentration and abuse of wealth for the exclusive benefit of a private ruling oligarchy. It is the capitalism that claims to champion democracy and markets even as it destroys them. The capitalism that claims to bring universal prosperity even while denying it to all but its most favored servants. The capitalism that destroys life to make money and organizes as a suicide economy that destroys the foundations of its own existence—and ours.

...

In traditional pre-money gift economies, the relationships that bind the community into a functioning unit are defined primarily by mutual caring and commitment. In a monetized market economy these relationships are defined primarily, even exclusively, by money at the expense of the mutual caring and commitment essential to individual happiness and healthy social function.

...

In a gift economy our survival and well-being depend on the cultivation and exercise of our capacity for love and our sense of responsibility to and for the community of which we are a part. In the monetized market economy our survival and well-being depend on money—and therefore the institutions that control our access to money.

...

In the fully developed capitalist economy, this means we are reduced to dependence for our basic means of living on the corporations that the oligarchs create to leverage their own financial power with the savings of others in order to acquire and manage assets far beyond their own individual means. Programmed by its internal structures to value only money in service to the demands of distant and impersonal financial markets for ever-greater profits, the corporation behaves like a money-seeking robot systematically expropriating and destroying the real wealth of living communities to make money—phantom-wealth accounting tokens—unrelated to anything of real value.”

The Bible calls people fools…capable but unwilling. The reason why is irrelevant. But the article is true. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample them underfoot and try to destroy you. Totally agree. If everyone would have just said no from the beginning, we would not even be here with all these problems. This phenomenon may reside in the widespread trait of 'social desirability,' or needing to be accepted by others, especially thos in power. In research, social desirability messes up findings because those people report favorable outcomes when there is none, just to please the researchers.

Good one. It reminds me of a law passed here in Malaysia - Act 672: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_Waste_and_Public_Cleansing_Management_Act_2007

sometimes called the solid waste separation act. It is a thinly veiled profit making enterprise. In a nutshell, all your garbage is now the property of the authority established under another act. This law COMPELLS you to separate your garbage and clean recyclables like bottles and tin cans. This takes more effort for which you do not get compensated. Immediately all rag-pickers are turned into criminals. Enterprising folks have collected the clean and sorted {and wrapped} stuff - ahead of the appointed subcontractors - to sell to recycling centres. The only legal way to defeat this law is to go to the recycling centres yourself to sell your garbage. Very few are up to this. The perplexing bit about this law is that they DO NOT collect used cooking oil.

We must be good to each other and always give an answer for the HOPE that is within us.

Nope, I ususally cut them out of my life and move on. Each person has their own way of negotiating this sort of mass madness. Like Bonhoeffer says, in situations of mass stupidity, one cannot fix stupid.

Agreed! In the beginning I was expressing concern and compassion to slowly lead my loved ones rather than the loud scream method. No level of emotional appeal (and scientific evidence) worked on any of them. None! So, I dropped the subject altogether because they knew better. 🤷‍♀️ As their mother, chief caregiver, nurturer, counselor, they trusted me with their very lives - until 2020. Just insane.

My goal is to be respectful and kind AND sometimes that means standing alone against the masses and our dearly loved ones with what we know to be True.

Love can be complicated and the boundaries confusing.

We must BE KIND TO OURSELVES TOO. Truth will prevail!

We're all, each of us is Dietrich Bonhöffer now.

I would send this article to a few associates but I'm pretty sure they'll either a) discard it while taking offense or (more likely) b) discard it while wondering why I sent it to them.

It’s hard to convince anyone of anything when calling them stupid,

Exactly....

Especially while we continue to insist on enforcing and imposing utterly INSANE societal standards of "normalcy" on children, to which they MUST conform in order to survive, when they are too young to understand and reject the madness being imposed on them.

It's quite "crazy making"...

He was a wise man. This excerpt is especially true today. I know many intelligent people who just can't see what's happening.

It’s not that they can’t see what is happening, it’s that they go out of their way to avoid seeing what’s happening..... and in the process make themselves stupid (as sort of a psychological defense mechanism).

I think that was the point of the article :).

At least that was the way I read it....

I agree 100%!!

I was helping with video-conferencing in a meeting this week (February 2023). The attendees where four of the most intelligent professors in the department. All four were wearing masks. My guess is 5% of the department here is wearing masks. These are stubborn and perhaps fearful people and though possessing great intellect, seem stupid by the above definition.

One wonders if they really get anything by their stupid virtue signalling or whatever they think they're doing.

Not only stupid but apparently nuts as well.

You'd get a real hoot from reading the short satire, "The Dependent Scholar," by Lucian of Samosata, written about 2,000 years ago.

Describes the type to a "T."
