As to the second half of the question. Why are they out there at night? Their squadron is charged with evacuating political leaders in an emergency. That means 24/7.
Actually at night it's usually far easier to ID traffic with landing lights on than it is in the day but more difficult to estimate range.
As a pilot when I acknowledge that I have traffic in sight to me it represents a contract with the controller that I will see and avoid. If I lose sight I let the controller know and ask for a new pointout.
In a real emergency (like 9/11) civilian air traffic into Reagan would likely be restricted.

Seems fair game to me given the tragedy of 67 lives snuffed out in a matter of seconds when the pilot of that helicopter ran into the back of that plane. It was landing, on final approach, in VFR conditions (they were 100% responsible to maintain separation). This never should have happened. Yet it did. I empathize with all those who lost loved ones. Cannot change it now. Answers and accountability are 100% required.

We will see how the investigation unfolds. As a former FAA qualified Air Traffic controller, local and tower supervisor, radar GCA, etc. I know a bit of how air Traffic works. 'Safe expeditious flow of traffic' has always been the priority. In this recent (IMO) avoidable crash, neither safety or expeditious flow of traffic was conducted as required. I fully anticipate the findings will reveal what went wrong.

The family is not responsible for the deaths. I think, even if it turns out that the disaster was caused by a mechanical malfunction or a hacked computer system, people will just say that that information is a coverup because the collision must have been caused by the fact that the pilot was a woman. Having watched the video several times, it looks like a direct attack. Not saying it was, just looks that way. Also dropping several hundred feet in an instant stopping at the same level as the commercial plane then flying at that altitude directly toward the plane makes no sense.

If you want to fly for the airlines you will need an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license, which requires a minimum of 1500 hours of flight time. 500 hours may seem like alot to people unfamiliar with that field, but really 500 is barely anything, especially for that airspace.
In a complex aircraft at night in complex airspace, 500 hours is borderline rookie status. And the most important factor is how many hours did she have in the past 30, 60, 90 days, even in the past week. You have to remain sharp as a pilot of a complex aircraft, especially in that kind of airspace. If you have 500 hours and are dispatched in that airspace at night in a complex aircraft, you better have had 100 of those 500 hours in the past month. I live next to a naval air station that is base for a carrier air wing. The pilots are flying every day, all day long. This wasn’t night carrier landing level flying, but my point stands

Lastly, was there a person of interest on the AA plane that may have been targeted, and that would explain why the Blackhawk helicopter could have been programmed to collide with the AA plane.
The Tower saw the Helo. They let them know they needed to take evasive action. So the above does not comport with the facts. The AA flight was not on the same frequency, and they were at an altitude where the crash alert is turned off. It was clear the Helo was in error. The question, which I presume you are asking, is was it pure error or more than an error.
I don't understand re AA was on a different frequency. It still sounds like the AA plane couldn't see how close the Blackhawk was. Don't pilots have radar that shows nearby planes and do military helicopters show up on their radar? Do Blackhawks have transponders?

The entire tragic story seems to be missing some relevant details. Something went very very wrong that night and so many people needlessly died. Why weren't there 4 people on that flight? It seems you would want 1 person without night vision goggles who could see very well all the way around. And the choice of the location where they were flying makes absolutely no sense to me. To fly a helicopter in the US Army, one must be either a warrant officer or a commissioned officer. The crew chief was an NCO, or a "non-commissioned" officer.

I learned to fly in 1968. My flight instructor taught me the Airman's trinity: Aviate, Navigate and Communicate: IN THAT ORDER! Having worked with technology all my life I have learned one thing: TECHNOLOGY CAN'T PREVENT HUMAN ERROR, or to put it a little more indelicately, technology can't fix stupid. It is clear to me that the pilot of the UH-60 was at fault in the recent tragedy.
Air Traffic Control is the Communicate part and often cannot be relied upon to overcome human error in the cockpit. In fact, I've had incidents where an Air Traffic Controller told me to do something, but it didn't make sense based on where my airplane was in the flight pattern/envelope, so I had to question the ATC's order. I have always endeavored to obey their commands but I'm still the pilot in command of my aircraft and if I think their command is wrong for my situation at that moment, it's my responsibility to question their judgement. Reduced ATC staffing wasn't the issue but certainly could be in the future. And Air Traffic Controllers are just as prone to human error as are pilots. Sometimes too much technology can be confusing.
Technology in the cockpit cannot be relied upon to overcome a human error. The traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) system stops sending warnings and only sends Resolution Advisories (RA) when the aircraft goes below 1,000 feet. And a quote from "Introduction to TCAS II version 7": ...it is well understood that part of the remaining risk is that TCAS may induce midair collisions: "In particular, it is dependent on the accuracy of the threat aircraft's reported altitude and on the expectation that the threat aircraft will not make an abrupt maneuver that defeats the TCAS Resolution Advisory (RA). The safety study also shows that TCAS II will induce some critical near midair collisions...". It's not clear if the UH-60 involved was equipped with TCAS but I know that many military tactical aircraft aren't equipped with TCAS due to past DOD budget reductions.
PILOT ERROR BY THE ARMY PILOTS WAS THE CAUSE
It is being reported that the pilots of the UH-60 were wearing Night Vision Goggles - NVG's. If both the Army pilots were wearing Night Vision Goggles, then their collective field of vision was reduced. If it was a training flight as we are being told, then why was the Instructor Pilot (IP) wearing the NVG's? The IP SHOULD NOT have been wearing NVG's so that he could maintain complete situational awareness and ensure that the student was "AVIATING AND NAVIGATING" safely. You don't need NVG's to fly at night. The pilots of the CRJ weren't wearing NVG's! I can understand the need to wear NVG's in training, but NOT when you're aviating and navigating through one of the busiest airspaces in America. I hope Sec Def Hegseth's investigation will result in changes to the Army's training.

Actually at night it's usually far easier to ID traffic with landing lights on than it is in the day but more difficult to estimate range.
As a pilot when I acknowledge that I have traffic in sight to me it represents a contract with the controller that I will see and avoid. If I lose sight I let the controller know and ask for a new pointout.
In a real emergency (like 9/11) civilian air traffic into Reagan would likely be restricted.

It was landing, on final approach, in VFR conditions (they were 100% responsible to maintain separation). This never should have happened. Yet it did. I empathize with all those who lost loved ones. Cannot change it now. Answers and accountability are 100% required.

I think, even if it turns out that the disaster was caused by a mechanical malfunction or a hacked computer system, people will just say that that information is a coverup because the collision must have been caused by the fact that the pilot was a woman. I’m not making excuses. I just want the full truth without any sugar coating. I am completely opposed to DEI and I question the wisdom of women serving in combat roles. I think there may be certain positions in the military where women can serve very well.

Having watched the video several times, it looks like a direct attack. Not saying it was, just looks that way. Also dropping several hundred feet in an instant stopping at the same level as the commercial plane then flying at that altitude directly toward the plane makes no sense.

There are a lot of us wondering if the helicopter was taken over remotely. Considering that the helo's ID was PAT25, which stands for Priority Air Transport 25, it sure seems like it was carrying a VIP.
I think the most likely explanation is that it was carrying at least one VIP that the CIA wanted killed, and they put in inexperienced and DEI crew to make an accident seem more likely.

If you want to fly for the airlines you will need an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license, which requires a minimum of 1500 hours of flight time. 500 hours may seem like alot to people unfamiliar with that field, but really 500 is barely anything, especially for that airspace.

If you have 500 hours and are dispatched in that airspace at night in a complex aircraft, you better have had 100 of those 500 hours in the past month. I live next to a naval air station that is base for a carrier air wing. The pilots are flying every day, all day long. This wasn’t night carrier landing level flying, but my point stands

Lastly, was there a person of interest on the AA plane that may have been targeted, and that would explain why the Blackhawk helicopter could have been programmed to collide with the AA plane.
The Tower saw the Helo. They let them know they needed to take evasive action. So the above does not comport with the facts. The AA flight was not on the same frequency, and they were at an altitude where the crash alert is turned off. It was clear the Helo was in error. The question, which I presume you are asking, is was it pure error or more than an error.

Trump supporter Darren Beatty's Revolver News had an article a year ago on the escalating number of "near misses" (i.e. near collisions) at U.S. airports. Even lamestream sources admit that air traffic control has been understaffed for a decade or more. But it will be interesting to learn if White House social duties limited Lobach's flight hours.

Basic airline pilots need an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license, which requires a minimum of 1500 hours of flight time. She had barely 500, she was the least qualified person in that sky and for what reason? DEI doesn't seem too far off from the real answer here. She and whoever ordered her there are responsible for the lives of all those people.
Her family said she had 450 hours in the cockpit. Also the tower understaffed due to DEI recruitment shortages. helicopters regularly crossing the flight landing path is a recipe for disaster. RIP. Glad Trump is honest enough to speak out loud and order the corrective action.

The entire tragic story seems to be missing some relevant details. Something went very very wrong that night and so many people needlessly died. Why weren't there 4 people on that flight? It seems you would want 1 person without night vision goggles who could see very well all the way around. And the choice of the location where they were flying makes absolutely no sense to me. Why on earth near such a busy airport and at night nonetheless. Each of the 3 pilots sounds like very capable likable people. But something went horribly wrong. I do find Myself wondering if somehow the controls were taken Over remotely somehow by a nefarious actor. The video footage is horrifying.
Just to clarify a point for the sake of discussion, there were only two pilots aboard the Blackhawk; the third individual (a staff sergeant) was the crew chief.
To fly a helicopter in the US Army, one must be either a warrant officer or a commissioned officer. The crew chief was an NCO, or a "non-commissioned" officer.

I have read that those points are not very accurate, so it could be an artifact of the inaccuracy. I don't know for sure though.

More likely the passenger was on the helicopter, since it was identified as PAT25, or priority air transport. It was marked as carrying a VIP.

What would make most sense to me is that there was one more VIPs on the helicopter - it's callsign was PAT25, or priority air transport 25. That means it was carrying VIPs. So they put disposable or annoying people to pilot the craft along with the VIPs they want to get rid of, then take over the helicopter when desired.
It's possible the whole thing was a hit on someone on the plane. It's also possible it really was an accident.
What "first hand" evidence to you have that there wasn't? They can make ANY airplane remote controlled. I'd be willing to bet that there are NO UAV flights allowed in the DC class B airspace. Or any class B airspace, for that matter. Why do you require "first hand" evidence from me, but you can come up with any crazy theory you want?

I learned to fly in 1968. My flight instructor taught me the Airman's trinity: Aviate, Navigate and Communicate: IN THAT ORDER! Having worked with technology all my life I have learned one thing: TECHNOLOGY CAN'T PREVENT HUMAN ERROR, or to put it a little more indelicately, technology can't fix stupid. It is clear to me that the pilot of the UH-60 was at fault in the recent tragedy.
Air Traffic Control is the Communicate part and often cannot be relied upon to overcome human error in the cockpit. In fact, I've had incidents where an Air Traffic Controller told me to do something, but it didn't make sense based on where my airplane was in the flight pattern/envelope, so I had to question the ATC's order. I have always endeavored to obey their commands but I'm still the pilot in command of my aircraft and if I think their command is wrong for my situation at that moment, it's my responsibility to question their judgement. Reduced ATC staffing wasn't the issue but certainly could be in the future. And Air Traffic Controllers are just as prone to human error as are pilots. Sometimes too much technology can be confusing.
Technology in the cockpit cannot be relied upon to overcome a human error. The traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) system stops sending warnings and only sends Resolution Advisories (RA) when the aircraft goes below 1,000 feet. And a quote from "Introduction to TCAS II version 7": ...it is well understood that part of the remaining risk is that TCAS may induce midair collisions: "In particular, it is dependent on the accuracy of the threat aircraft's reported altitude and on the expectation that the threat aircraft will not make an abrupt maneuver that defeats the TCAS Resolution Advisory (RA). The safety study also shows that TCAS II will induce some critical near midair collisions...". It's not clear if the UH-60 involved was equipped with TCAS but I know that many military tactical aircraft aren't equipped with TCAS due to past DOD budget reductions.
PILOT ERROR BY THE ARMY PILOTS WAS THE CAUSE
It is being reported that the pilots of the UH-60 were wearing Night Vision Goggles - NVG's. If both the Army pilots were wearing Night Vision Goggles, then their collective field of vision was reduced. If it was a training flight as we are being told, then why was the Instructor Pilot (IP) wearing the NVG's? The IP SHOULD NOT have been wearing NVG's so that he could maintain complete situational awareness and ensure that the student was "AVIATING AND NAVIGATING" safely. You don't need NVG's to fly at night. The pilots of the CRJ weren't wearing NVG's! I can understand the need to wear NVG's in training, but NOT when you're aviating and navigating through one of the busiest airspaces in America. I hope Sec Def Hegseth's investigation will result in changes to the Army's training.

I can see some parallels between the helicopter tragedy, and the sinking of our NZ Navy ship recently. Both displayed catastrophic operational failure during a routine activity, caused by unexplainable errors by person in command, and both times were women. The Lesbian commander of our navy ship was also relatively inexperienced in her role.
I lived in Fiji for a few years. So after arriving in 2018, I went to the wharf of the capital to collect my car that I had purchased in Australia and had shipped over. I had to wait by my car for about 20 minutes or so, and right in front of me was a NZ frigate or other smaller naval vessel. It was late afternoon, so sailors were emerging from the ship to walk to town (a very seedy place, minutes away on foot) and there was a very large proportion of butch women, many with an abundance of tattoos. I remember being amused by the scene and thinking it was a product of the woke Ardern regime. BTW, when she visited, the roads were closed whenever she went anywhere, which created mayhem. Not so when the Aussie PM, ScoMo, had been there a year or so earlier.
