Certain I'm not the only one subscribing to learn 'THE REST OF THE STORY'.

Gosh, that's what I get for adoring children and curiosity...

Grandma always told me, "Curiosity would kill the cat."

And, can't wait to learn the rest of the story...

Do you think he still respects us this morning? 🤔

Or, as I think of them: Haters of humanity -- along with a host of others.

Utterly riveting -- Thank you, Mr. Leake.

And it was always waiting on the horizon; we just fished and sunbathed and walked on the beach, and went for breakfast ….la la la

I want to read the rest of the story. Will there be a Part 2?

No matter how much time goes by that event will always be as chilling as the day it happened. The mind cannot comprehend that devastation

I wonder, now, about DEW and HAARP creating many such disasters. Killing us for fun. Wonder what changes in land ownership resulted from this quake and tsunami? And the man's children, their fate.

The poorest of the poor didn't fair well...but let face it, Banda Aceh isn't going to be a 'Maui destination' anytime sooner or later. I remember that morning and seeing the video footage from those in the hotels above the water... complete destruction.

Little sparks like those won't do it. 23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs is a really big "broken arrow". (Bigger than Tsar Bomba)

What a frightening account. Very well written.

This reminds me of the movie, The Impossible, with Ewan Mcgregor. Its a true story of a family vacationing in Thailand that endured a tsunami.

Wow! So beautifully and poignantly expressed, I remember the shock of that day. The earth and the natural upheavals, no man can control

Powerful memories John, I spent 16 days in Aceh with an Australian medical team after the tsunami. The destruction was incredible, it went miles inland. We worked out of one of the 2 remaining hospitals, despite it being earthquake damaged. There were multiple after shocks daily in the '7' range. The power went out multiple times daily, despite our generators. The injured never stopped coming, mainly with limb injuries from all the debris in the water. We doubled our operating capacity, military style (most of us were military reservists) by putting 2 operating beds in each theatre, with the anaesthesiologist (me) giving 2 anaesthetics at the same time - mainly with ketamine. Six months later I was in Iraq, working as an 'embed' in the USAF hospital in Balad.... what a year.

John, will you write a book with the rest of this man’s story and accounts from others you interviewed?? I would love to read it if you do.

Such captivating prose! Can't wait to know what happened. The story I vaguely recall about the tsunami was about a young girl and her family vacationing somewhere the tsunami hit (can't remember). She was from the Pacific Northwest, where they have tsunami drills due to the discovery of the Pacific Cascadia subduction zone, and she knew what it means when the ocean recedes. She got her whole family to higher ground. The discovery of the Pacific Cascadia is a cool story, too, involving dendrochronology and legends passed down on the coast of Japan. So beautifully written.

Powerful story. Thanks! A friend of mine and his family were on the island that week, but felt they should leave a couple days earlier than planned. They made it safely home, but would have been there when the tsunami hit had they not left early.

Thanks for that amazing account of surviving.
