Perhaps the expression 'Once Bidened twice shy' is relevant here. The mask suits him, but possibly should be replaced with the standard wire mesh version, which would be equally effective against viruses and would deal better with the biting problem. I assume he's wearing it in this instance to protect Commander, who possibly is unvaxxed. Or it may be to hide bruising from a punch in the mouth delivered by a bitee.

I'm sure Commander is at least double vaxxed. Maybe the cocaine causes his aggressive tendencies.

What if he bites because he has been mistreated and abused? I read that this is their second biting dog... makes you wonder why, poor things! Most dogs won’t bite for no reason!

Expand full comment

I doubt Commander bites because he's been abused. Dogs are pack animals. They expect their "pack" to be led by an Alpha animal, who "calls the shots", demands respect, and disciplines pack members when necessary. When a dog lives with humans, the dog's owner should take the Alpha role and make that plain to the dog. Otherwise, the dog will (in most cases) take the Alpha role, and when the dog feels a need to "discipline" humans, it will "discipline with its teeth" -- in other words, by biting. Almost certainly, this is what Commander is doing.

There are many ways an owner can teach a dog “I’m Alpha, not you.” This doesn’t require cruelty, though with some big, powerful dogs you have to learn how to roll them over and hold them down (perhaps many times until they fully “get the message”). There are simple things like requiring a dog to earn its meals by obeying a few commands before it's given its food. There are also things to avoid doing, like letting the dog sleep in your bed. And by the way, family dogs need to learn not just that the parents are Alpha, but also that all of the children are Alpha. Otherwise the dog will think it needs to be the "Alpha babysitter" when parents aren't around, and will discipline children by knocking them down, growling, biting, etc.

So about Biden's biting dogs -- They're taking the Alpha role because Biden isn't. (The fact that Biden named his dog "Commander" is a big red flag BTW.) Commander thinks he's Alpha to everybody at the White House, and he's disciplining people with his teeth. He needs to go to a new owner who will teach him "You're not Alpha any more, buddy, I'm Alpha" and give him an appropriate sub-Alpha name.

Hey, I like your insightfulness, but how “disciplining” has young Commander been. So we know he has had 14 victims, but to what extent we’re the bites given a totally protective media denial and indifference.

Expand full comment

Alpha dogs are quite effective and efficient in training humans to behave properly. One episode of being disciplined by the Alpha dog's teeth usually does the trick. Once disciplined, a person will either carefully avoid the dog, or (if they can't avoid contact with it) carefully avoid "offending" it.

I wouldn't want to be around Commander. When I was young and strong, I could roll a big dog over and hold it down until it signaled "Ok, I get it, you're Alpha" but I'm an old lady now. But I'd love to "be a fly on the wall" at the White House and watch how Commander controls his "pack" and how people signal "Yes sir, Commander" to him to avoid being bitten.

I'd also like to see how Commander acts around powerful, important men, like the Secretary of Defense, or the Chiefs of Staff of the various military branches. Have White House staff members figured out rules and protocols to prevent Commander from biting "the wrong people"? Does Commander get to go into the Oval Office or is he excluded? Does some unlucky staff person have to persuade Commander to go back to the "family quarters" of the White House when someone too important to bite is coming to meet with Biden? I bet a whole book could be written about Commander and his adventures during Biden's presidency.

Agree. And I thought it was the 3rd or 4th (that we know of), but I could be wrong. But let's face it ... abuse of the vulnerable is Biden's specialty. Just one more reason to hate the man.

I have Papillons who are very sweet ,loyal, super intelligent, and highly energetic, can leap very high, give doggie kisses all the time and don't bite. They don't need a leash as they like to walk by my side. What does that say about me?

Friendly Brilliant, your dogs' behavior says that you are the leader of your pack, the "Alpha", and your dogs know it. You probably give your dogs "Alpha signals" many times per day, along with good care and appropriate affection. They don't bite because it's the Alpha's place to discipline pack members (an Alpha who is a canine would "discipline with his teeth").

It's not the dog. It's the owner. I've raised and rescued German shepherds for 30 years. They are intelligent and gentle under the care of a good owner who trains and cares for them. Two of Biden's dogs have bitten people over the course of three years. None of mine has bitten anyone in 30 years, even my rescues who went through hell before coming to us. It's not the dogs...it's the owner.

Expand full comment

I agree that it's not the dog, it's the owner. Commander is taking the Alpha role in the White House "pack" because Biden isn't, and like any canine "leader", Commander is disciplining pack members with his teeth. Commander needs to be re-homed with an owner who knows how to be Alpha to a big, powerful dog who needs to be demoted from Alpha. And Commander needs a new, appropriate name, because dogs tend to live up to their names -- it was a bad sign from the get-go that Biden named this dog "Commander"...

How many more dogs does the POS POTUS get a shot at? If you're going to euthanize every one he's turned into a vicious animal, there'll need to be a crematorium at the White House.

Expand full comment

No, Commander shouldn't be put down. He's taking the Alpha (leadership) role in the White House "pack" (and disciplining people with his teeth), because Biden *isn't* taking the Alpha role. Commander should be re-homed with a good new owner who will teach him "You're not the Alpha anymore, buddy; I am. You don't get to discipline pack members." And the new owner should give the dog a new, appropriate name -- dogs tend to live up to their names and "Commander" isn't suitable for a dog that lives with humans.

You are not right, when you write, that I know not the difference between site and sight. And to say that I deserve a bite because I misspelled the word sight is to write with spite, an emotional blight. All the same, thanks for the correction. John Leake

Let's examine this further:

"...the paradoxical urge to devour an adorable animal or human, the site of which overwhelms us with emotion."

Perhaps the location at which a paradoxical urge to devour something adorable occurs does overwhelm us with emotion. I know whenever I see Biden in the White House of all places behaving thusly, I am overwhelmed with revulsion, for example. If he has to indulge, at least have the civility to do so in private.

I had a German shepherd. They are amazing animals. I raised her with three little ones. He doesn’t have command of the animal who should be walking at his side. Not leading him but maybe that’s why the dog is named Commander

Dogs tend to live up to their names; it was a bad sign from the start that Biden named his dog "Commander." Obviously Biden hasn't taken the Alpha role in the White House "pack", in Commander's opinion, so Commander has taken the role and is disciplining pack members with his teeth when he thinks they've stepped out of line. In contrast to Biden, you evidently know how to be a good Alpha in your family "pack." So your German shepherd had an opportunity to be a wonderful family member.
