It will be difficult if not impossible to assess all the layers of harms from this horrible event- physical, emotional, financial- negative effects for years to come.
Great point on not a word about those injured. Yes, agree, forest fire smoke much less spooky than burning human-made items and materials- so many toxins.
What worries me most is the triggering of other arsonists and crazies to do more harm.
Like 911, many first responders and firefighters and emergency personnel are at risk from the smoke and particulate exposures from these terrible catastrophic fires. Many residents likely have been exposed and face similar concerns. Simply breathing such byproducts of this disaster poses serious risks to ones health and well being. Like burn pits in war torn areas, there will certainly be serious health issues going forward for many of those exposed. Like so many destructive events, the initial cause can and, most likely, will have disastrous effects for many over time. What's done is done. Those who remain in that area who have not been exposed would be well advised to take precautions against inhaling the debris, smoke, and particulates being emitted from these ongoing, uncontained fires which remain out of control. If leaving the area is an option, one would be well advised to do so.
I had a house fire. It is a horrible experience and I feel for everyone dealing with this tragedy in California. For me, finally after months fighting with the insurance company, I received my payment for structure. Before that, i was told I could not remove anything from the home. After receiving the payment now I could demolish the property and try to recover whatever may have been left. We were never warned not to enter the toxic space. We were never warned about being exposed to toxic debris and especially toxic mold. It is human nature to want to recover your belongings but I would forewarn anyone from doing so without complete protection. We did were gloves but no other protection.
We were exposed to toxic mold. This was in 2014 and are still suffering from the effects. Mold in the body is hard to get rid of. I now have chronic fungal sinusitis and am getting ready for my second surgery. It has been awful and has effected my health. My son is dealing with it as well. I am still looking for answers on how to clear this out of our systems, but to no avail.. I have seen four ENTs. I have tried about everything and the doctors have prescribed both prescription medications and holistic products. This is a very serious health issue both during hurricanes and fires for homeowners. Please be aware. Do not enter your home without complete protection. My prayers go out to anyone who is dealing with such a tragedy.
What about green energy’s impact if any were in those surrounding hills I.e. Wind Turbines, solar farms and solar panels on rooftops of homes and businesses?
I've got a question that's never been truly answered...
I grew up in the 60', 70's in California. Smog "alerts" We're generally the norm on most summer says. Used to swim during these days. Starting 3-4 hours later, every evening, shortness of breath, sometimes severe were brushed aside as a overreacting child. Allergies to outside pollen were later found during a "scratch" allergy test. Developed severe asthma after.
Have been exposed to smoke from fires close by around same age as well.
My recollection was the smog inflicted way more shortness of breath than the smoke did.
Bad air prevention is a meaningful task when particulates can clog lungs and throats.
The LA hillsides have trapped lead and carbon monoxides before 1973 smogged our vehicles.
Folks used to pray for the Santa Ana winds to blow the pollutants west and out to the ocean.
Glen Frey had lyrics about how lovely the Auburn skies were at sunsets! Can't fight Canyon fires except from the sky.

Any ideas on why???
Oh dear what doom mongers you are. Like I said we often spend a summer breathing in smoke and we survive.
