Bravo John, you described my situation exactly: My lily white ivy league, educated leftist daughter who lives between Paris and New York City, and was once married to a communist French professor essentially disowned me because I am a Trump supporter and voted for him in 2016. She hasn’t spoken to me since that time. She is an intolerant leftist. On the other hand, my adopted black son is a very tolerant man, and said to my lily white daughter: “what did you expect, Dad is a Republican; you know that!” Tolerance and intolerance comes in all colors; it’s a choice as to what we believe is the correct moral position.

Really sorry to hear about your intolerant daughter. Similar worries about my own kids have led me to home school them - neither will I finance tuition at any Leftist college indoctrination camp.

You are making the best education decision. The more people commit to homeschooling, the faster things will be forced to change in the educational system. It was the best decision we made and I hope our son and his wife will make the same choice if they have children.

I'm sorry. That is very painful. I'm glad you have another child who has not disowned you.

Sad, similar situation with my daughter and son. . . daughter employed by US AF, so some irony there. She was pissed the other day when I suggested she spend her last AF years in Pensacola where it is warmer, lower taxes, and she could have Ron DeSantis as her governor. College educated.

Son: tech school, owns his own collision repair business and works his ass off, six weeks backlogged.

Two totally different humans.

Sad but true John, though I found the story about the dinner you attended in Vienna (vis a vis Mr. Trump "I was just kidding! He's a total buffoon...") funny in the way of self-preservation when completely surrounded by rabid hyenas LOL

Absolutely love this piece and wish it would get thru to all persons on earth and teach it to kids in school from a young age!! They need to learn it!

Totally agree!

Of course this is all of what most conservatives believe and how we behave. Unfortunately, this is not reciprocated. The left are bullies and do not tolerate any views but their own.

At the 2016 dinner, I would have stood my ground and defended Trump. In fact whenever the discussion comes up I can successfully defend Trump because he's almost always been right and done the right thing. The discussion ends when my opponent looses their temper and starts to yell and turn red, then of course, there's nothing you can say. Today of course I think Trump is 100% wrong about the Covid vaccines, and I'm perplexed as to why he doesn't come out and demand they be withdrawn from the market.

People like to believe that Trump would fight against the Washington machine (or big corp and big pharma), and he might but only if it behooves him to do it. He is first and formost for himself, and if and when good things come about for others as a result of his actions it is a happy accident. Believing Trump wants what is good for the country is nothing but a foolish belief.

Hoping Bobby Kennedy Jr. runs for president.

We all like Kennedy, don't know where he stands on the issues other than the clot shots. Since he's a Democrat, that would indicate support for abortion right up till birth, so cold blooded murder rules him out for me if this is the case. As a wealthy man, Trump could have simply retired to live a life of pure luxury, but he tried to make America great again, and did accomplish a lot towards this. To go through the undeserved punishment he's went through, and attacks and lies and he's still going, indicates to me a man of courage the likes of which comes only a few times in several hundred years. As you know Trump donated every penny of his salary, doesn't sound like someone "first and foremost for himself". His business lost tons of it's value while he was president. The list of great accomplishments if I listed them here would fill 5-12 pages, one is the peace agreements that no president before was able to do. We had no war under Trump, other than wiping out ISIS, Trump knew how to talk to vicious homicidal maniacs like Putin and Kim, he inflated their ego's and we were at peace. One big negative for Trump in my opinion is that he hasn't come out and condemned the clot shots, with all the evidence of 300,000 American deaths, millions of injuries, it's inexcusable that he hasn't told the truth.

Well said. Agree about the vax, too. Inexplicable.

But, when "under the gun" you make the best decision you can. . . If you were accompanied by your wife you may not be so ready to pull out the sharp knives.

I believe it was John Locke who said something to the effect that "all thing should be tolerated save one, and that is intolerance." What does it mean to be intolerant of intolerance, though? What is the best response to intolerance? How do we avoid being intolerant of intolerance without seeming to become that which we are condemning? Quite a conundrum.

We could also tolerate intolerance...

aaah. It is the man with the silver tongue who can respond with equanimity-- NOT me.

People who think conservatives are nothing but a bunch of beer guzzling, low educated, religious zealots who want everyone to to think, act, or believe like they do, violent racists - the list goes - are sorely wrong. The fake news has done a great job portraying us as such, but there couldn’t be anything farther from the truth. There are many just as there are Dems who are in the middle, not one extreme or the other. We love our country, families, and all bleed red, white, and blue. I used to watch Ru Paul for God sakes, and I could care less if people are gay, never had nothing against them, but the tyrants want to divide us in any way they can. Many of us don’t judge others, and are good, decent, charitable people. Americans are the most generous people in the world, and we give a lot to charities to help others, and a lot of that money comes from good, average Americans who don’t have a lot of money to give. Those donations to POTUS45 (I love POTUS45) after the announcement of his indictment (latest I heard was $4M in first 24 hours, and the average donation was $34) were from people who believe in him and don’t want to lose our country to tyranny. Now, you may think you can stay moderate in this most dangerous time in my lifetime at least, but there won’t be any seats in the middle-of-the- road section of the bleachers in this fight. Don’t think when they come for us because you say I’m not one of them and think nothing like them that you’ll be safe. If you’ve displayed any kind of narrative that doesn’t fit their “New World,” you’ll not get a pass. I guarantee they have no tolerance for you.

I was fortunate to get a Jesuit liberal arts education including Milton’s literature. I was taught that the open and curious mind is able to entertain any idea without embracing it. Viva the tolerant mind.

I sat on a bus in Slovenia whilst a raging communist young guide answered questions from obviously anti Trump Americans -she was attains to explain how DT asked for Melania' hand in marriage from her fatter who lived na village in Slovenia and then I had to listen to full blown trump derangement syndrome till we were dropped at our hotel in Llubyjana. My revenge-a blistering review in trip advisor. It wasn't the only prejudice the guide offered. Tolerance is only one thing these days.

Joe Manchin today noted that we must come to terms with each other about government. The partisans on both sides refusing to tolerate any deviation of their ideology are tearing the nation apart to the detriment of the public. It's harder to punish such a speaker.

The pandemic became political nearly instantly also to the detriment of the public. Quite shameful and nobody will ever be held to account given the scale. Long time friendships abandoned. Neighbors refusing to even greet each other. I would hope leaders of the nation would preach tolerance yet our President, of all the people, demonizes half the nation as if he were campaigning.

Thanks for asking for tolerance. More should try.

Here, here. As a recovering progressive, I see the contradictions in people's ability to tolerate others different opinions, all the while claiming to embrace "diversity". Apparently, that thought of inclusion does not extend to others political views. I remember once a conservative I met said to me, "liberals tolerate almost anything other than a conservative ". I thought that was an astute observation.

I am attempting to awaken friends who are on the fence. Some are waking up. They're seeing the hypocracy of the govt policy and actions. Thank God.

Thanks for opening up the opportunity for folks to have intelligent and open discussions again.

John and all,

What happens if you tolerate ANY evil? Has evil gained ground in America such that we are consumed by it?

It is like an untended garden…the weeds take over! I love gardening and hate weed takeovers!

If you tolerated ANY evil in the past…Does that mean you are directly responsible for evil we see EVERYWHERE today?

If anyone still votes for democrat candidates…Are you a danger to America?

Did you know that whatever your enemies do to Trump, they can do to you with great ease because you have little resources compared to Trump? Communism 101!

P.S. How about this for a great Sunday message…one of Truth/Light?

We agree on almost everything included on “your list “ , except that I absolutely must advise everyone against abortion except when the mother’s life is in the balance.

Yet , for a woman who has gotten one herself , I have no condemnation or judgement whatsoever but tolerance, acceptance , & the love of Christ

I agree. Women who have aborted their children must be given love, forgiveness, and help in processing what happened and why.

I'm reminded of what Dennis Prager says regularly: Truth is NOT a left-wing value. And he always delineates between liberals and leftists. I've appreciated that distinction as it's helped me figure out if it's a waste of time for me to engage someone with a differing viewpoint. A liberal will often engage, but a leftist will start the ad hominem attacks and descend rapidly into irrationality.

I was surprised to learn you are a conservative John. But maybe being a true crime author has influenced that? I hope Dr. McCullough has been red-pilled about Democrats by now!

I, too, was surprised, that between John Leake and Peter McCullough, John is (more) the conservative. It seems that I was completely wrong.

Expand full comment

I would certainly have reversed the order, not knowing, but I've known for quite awhile that McCullough voted democrat. 🤷 Made no sense to me based on things he's said.

Expand full comment

Yes, I've suspected that he did, as well. I saw him speaking at a conference not long ago, say in front of a crowd, "I'm actually middle of the road...," Then, honestly, I was a bit shocked when he added almost verbatim, with a very strong voice, "For you Trump people, Trump has doubled down and tripled down on pushing the vaccine!" I had read Dr. McCullough, who, in the recent past, wrote something to the effect of, (similarly to another couple of vocal leaders of health freedom) that Trump must say how he had been fooled in 2020 by Fauci and other OWS people into thinking the "vaccine" was good, and he added that Trump may have "been in on it."

He added two other possibilities, so, while a little uncomfortable, I was not "shocked."

A lawyer and a well-known personality, both Trump supporters, had been contacting Trump over and over, telling him that Trump must say that he was "fooled by people in OWS" and why Trump "had kept on pushing the vaccines" and that if Trump did not announce this, he would no longer support Trump. The other wrote that if Trump did not say those words, he would be extremely disappointed in him and he might not support Trump. Their thinking was that Trump MUST say what they told him he must say, as if they were important enough that they could greatly persuade their listeners to no longer support Trump. Trump's team told them to stop saying that publicly about him, but they only partially complied. I think that to tell Trump over and over that they demand he say some certain sentences they wanted hear was going too far. I was surprised because they did not consider that Trump, with his experience, could be a world leader and handle all the many problems we're all facing.

I'm not sure we'll ever know what Trump knew, what he bought into and what he was coerced into. He needed to stop bragging about Operation Warp Speed LONG ago. What a disaster. He's lost a great deal of credibility b/c of this. I don't know if it's pride or what. Our country is going down with or without him, so I fear.
