Ever read See No Evil by Robert Baer? Ex CIA agent and seemingly good guy who wrote a biography and exposé on the subversion of the Agency by bureaucrats starting around the time Bush running it. It's a horrible precursor of where we are now. What is so difficult for me is that I never was given to conspiracy thinking until recently. The idea that senior members of the security services, armed forces and other tangential actors are completely ideological or otherwise corrupted is foreign to most people. It would be like saying that government leaders intentionally smeared Johnny Appleseed. But religious belief in ESG, identitarianisn, global boiling and other mind numbing ideas is endemic. We're screwed.
No I haven'r read that book but what you describe aligns with what I know from reading multiple articles that address the same topic over the past 8 years. Much of my awakening occurred when I saw and read analyses about the visceral reactions (of both Democrat and Establishment Republicans) to President Trump's election in 2016 and the nonstop chain of Deep State/Establishment actions / writings against both him and all of his supporters and voters. Prior to that I had been somewhat awakened to government corruption by Rush Limbaugh, Pat Buchanan, Glenn Beck, Alex Jones, and several live streamers on the internet.

That was my thought too, the various military bases and deployments.
