(Fellow Texan here) I just finished reading your Alpine Mystery on the death of the Canadian hockey player in Austria. I think North Americans don’t intuitively get how insular Europeans can be. The Tyrolians of Innsbruck remind me of a traditional type one would encounter in the West of Ireland in the late 1980’s.
