For those of you who are interested in taking MK-7 vitamin K supplement but are concerned about being produced from Natto, a fermented soy product, there are brands available made from fermented chickpeas.

I'm confused about Vit. K. Does it thin the blood and reduce the chances of clotting?

Expand full comment

No, vitamin K, in the "appropriate" dose, can cause blood clotting. It's why people on blood thinners like warfarin are advised to limit vitamin K foods, spinach, kale and the like.

Enzymedica has a product that has removed the K, Natto-K. It can be found on Amazon as well.

This appears to be conflicting ideas. If Covid and the jabs can cause blood clotting why take K if it can cause clotting at the "appropriate" dose? Seems potentially an agent that could make things worse. And the appropriate dose that causes clotting could vary with each person. I say this as someone who's taking D and K, but now I'm thinking I'll skip K and eat more veggies. But I have regard for Dr. McCullough, so I must be missing some info here.

Vit K is necessary to form some of the proteins necessary for blood clotting. It does not “thin the blood.” Warfarin is a vit K antagonist. Warfarin (Coumadin) is an anti-coagulant (blood-thinner) that works to block vitamin K. Taking vit K when on warfarin will reduce the effects of warfarin. Vit K1 can be found in some animal sources but is, most notably, found in dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach. Vit K2 (menaquinone) can be in the form of MK-4 or MK-7. Vit K2 cones from fermented products, such as soy (Natto) and chickpeas. Dr. McCullough has recommended his COVID patients to take 200mcg a day of MK-7.
