Because your comment is on point—ballot access for a new candidate would be complicated. Also, who is going to fork over for a failed campaign? The donor class is shifting to Trump. And none of these “Dem backbenchers”have national standing or the ability to beat Trump anyway. But the Dems via the DNC did this to themselves by not holding any primaries and crowning Biden instead. They would have had a potential winner in RFK but why would a corrupt machine want a populist reformer? Answer: they wouldn’t.
