"they also accused Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, of abandoning progressive ideals they felt could have propelled them into the White House." Much milder than I expected. Trump got 22% of Chicagoans' votes, up from 12.41% in 2016.

While your (many people's) prediction may come to pass to some degree, I would remind you that this bullshit is one of the reasons people have elected Trump. The people are fed up!!! In fact, I would posit that it is time to go on OFFENSE when it comes to those who have corrupted our federal and state governments for the last 4-6 years and commited crimes against the Constitution and the people. Your suggestions may help in preventing violence but the preexisting corruption, crimes, lies and Lawfare must be met head on and a message sent. The people must be able to expect TRUTH AND ACCOUNTABILITY from their government going forward if we are to ever expect any lasting change for the better. A serious 'message' must be sent as a deterernce to those who would comit crimes against the people, be they funders, organizers or participents. The best way to do this is to HOLD THOSE POLITICIANS AND BUREAUCRATS WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN CRIMINALLY CORRUPT, ACCOUNTABLE.....AND PUNISH THEM!!
It makes sense what you say; I don't disagree. But I would add, a lot of Dems (including many I know personally) wholly believe that all— yes, all— of those who voted for Trump are "racist, misogynist, and xenophobic." I just shake my head at that, but it is what it is, they really do believe that Trump won because of hate and, in my experience, it's impossible to get them to consider any other explanation.
So: it's like a lot of them are girding up for battle with an army that isn't actually there.
