As Dr. Heather Heying (Dr. Bret Weinstein's wife) pointed out on a recent Dark Horse Podcast, there are an awful lot of people speaking with confidence on subjects that they have no business speaking with any confidence about.
While I would not ascribe anyone's hubris or lack of introspection to a general lack of religious belief, I suspect that those who have come to terms with the idea that an accounting of our lives may be demanded at any moment and without any warning have been FAR more circumspect in their consideration of others during this time.
You're probably on to something there. There is certainly a lot to study!
I agree with your last point, completely.
I'm not cleaver enough to tell when people are deluded to the point that they actually believe the lies they're telling or if they're just lying for sport, but I suspect there are a sufficient supply of both types.
When you're well acquainted with someone, it's easier to tell, as in the case of some of my family I wrote about previously. Most of them are true believers because they've chosen to hide from truth. I suppose it's easier to imagine something is true when you refuse to consider an alternative point of view, but what a cowardly way to live!
I tend to think most of the people who deliver the "news", those in The Ministry of Propaganda, and some of those who are the subjects of their reporting - people like Jamie Raskin, Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer, and Mitch McConnell, to name just a few, are abject liars. As my wife says: "If they ever accidentally told the truth, they'd apologize for it."
Maybe they're trying to scuttle the legislation using this as a poison pill.
