Did Large Numbers of COVID-19 Deaths Justify Vaccine Casualities?

Recently I was on a long program with Dr. Drew Pinsky, who out of the gate declared the COVID-19 vaccines benefitted the elderly early in the pandemic. Keep in mind Dr. Drew took one Janssen vaccine under duress himself and recommended them for his elderly patients. He suffered a severe vaccine injury manifested by prostration and periorbital ecchymosis (raccoon sign) which may have indicated impending and subsequently aborted central cavernous venous thrombosis. Drew was never in favor of vaccination for low-risk groups or mandates. Because this was not the focus of the show I did not react to these assertions. The one thing I noticed is that he did not say they were safe. Not once.

So this brings up the dilemma of accepting death by vaccination for a theoretical benefit or a wishful intention of “saving lives” with the novel vaccines. Keep in mind there has never been a prospective, double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled trial of COVID-19 vaccination demonstrating reductions in hospitalization and death. There were no valid non-randomized studies of this issue. The consent form our seniors signed never indicated the vaccine would prevent death.

So why does Dr. Drew have this firmly held, yet unsupported belief? On September 28, 2021, Dr. Richard Baron, then CEO of the American Board of Internal Medicine issued this statement:

“Of one thing we are all certain: the COVID vaccine is safe and effective. Through September 20, there have been 386 million doses of the vaccine administered in the US; the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting system received 7,899 reports of death (0.0020%) among people who received a COVID vaccine, which does not necessarily mean the vaccine caused the death. That’s infinitesimal compared to the more than 690,000 American lives that the virus has taken as of late September 2021.”
